share information on writing competitions?

Sorry, no idea what happened to my other post, which seemed to delete itself as I hit 'post'.

In brief, I wondered whether we might have a regular thread on sharing information on novel competitions open to unpublished writers, such as the Mumsnet/Janklow and Nesbit comp. or the Lucy Cavendish one linked by a generous Mumsnetters?

Or people might consider sharing information on where they find out about such competitions or other relevant opportunities for novelists trying to find representation?

This might be of interest to midlands-based writers - in particular, a conference at the end of March in Nottingham which offers a limited number of slots to pitch to an agent.

Great idea. There's the Bath Novel Award which has a closing date in March. I'll need to dig out the links.

The Janklow and Nesbit comp. was great just for making me focus on writing it, so maybe with a string of competitions through the year I might actually finish it!

Thanks, Space. I didn't know about that one, either. I suspect I am the unpublished novelist equivalent of someone living under a rock.

Just reviving this thread to remind people that the Tinder Press open submissions ends on March 15th, and the Bath novel awards on March 31st.

Anyone else submit something for the Lucy Cavendish, the Bath Novel Award, the Tinder Press open submission?

OneFootIn1999 · 07/04/2015 22:14

I submitted to the Lucy Cavendish competition Maud. Also the Northern Writers Awards. The deadlines were all in the same week as the Mumsnet comp. Was just think earlier how much more motivated I was to write when I had competition deadlines. It's worth entering them for that alone.

There is also a Mslexia novel comp, doesn't close til November I think.

MaudGonneAway · 07/04/2015 23:06

I was annoyed to get an email from the Bath people today, when my technique for any form of application is to forget I've applied! They haven't said how many entries they got, but that they think the longlist will be under 5%...

Hi everyone, have had a blog for a little while but just started writing short stories and trying to get as much info/advise as possible so this thread looks great, I came across this www.booktrust.org.uk/books/adults/short-stories/prizes/ not sure if people already know about it.

Also I have the writer & artists handbook and wannabe a writer by Jane Wenham-Jones, any other books people would suggest?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/04/2015 10:52

The Bath Children's Novel Award has just opened (children's and YA), deadline not till October.

Superhez, I wrote a blog post about the best creative writing books, if that's any use to you here

The Peggy Chapman novel prize closes May 31st. I think there are poetry, short story and flash fiction categories too.
