Write an animal story for the Mumsnet and Walker Books writing competition

Do you secretly have a book inside you? Would you like to see it published?

Do you love making up stories for children? Why not enter this year's Mumsnet, Gransnet and Walker Books writing competition and see your story published in a beautifully illustrated gift book?

Last year we ran an incredibly successful writing competition to find 10 inspiring and original bedtime stories. Hundreds of people entered and the 10 winning stories were chosen by former Children's Laureate, Michael Rosen, and published in The Book of Bedtime Stories. The book was recently listed first in The Independent's top children's books for 2013, described as "beautifully produced ... could be a collector's item".

Mumsnet, Gransnet and Walker Books are now very excited to be launching the competition for its second year. This year, the theme will be animal stories. We want you to submit your stories before Monday 6 January. This year we have a judging panel - full details yet to be revealed but this will include previous Children's Laureate, Anthony Browne.

Find out how to enter this fabulous competition. For inspiration and to read winning stories, get your hands on a copy of The Mumsnet Book of Bedtime Stories.

I have just entered this competition, which is very exciting. The only thing is I wanted to enter two stories and when I went to submit my second story I was unable too, as it said that my username had to be unique and that it had already been used. Perhaps I should or could have entered them both in one go? How can I add another story?

JaneLeavey · 05/01/2014 10:18

Hi vickster12 I had same issue submitted one but can't upload my second one because my user name and email not unique. Hopefully the mumsnet team can sort it :-)

Khope06 · 05/01/2014 10:42

Never wrote anything before but just entered and feel quite proud of myself, even if I don't win, I know I've achieved something :)

ladydepp · 05/01/2014 10:50

I haven't received an email yet, I submitted it yesterday......

lougle · 05/01/2014 11:04

I don't think you get an email. It just says 'you have successfully submitted your story' after you click 'submit'?

RocketQ · 05/01/2014 13:41

Sorry, I forgot to add my name to the file name and now it won't let me submit again - what can I do?

Nerfmother · 05/01/2014 17:37

Entered. Story name plus my name as the file name. Unless I've sent my house hold budget or debt repayment plan in which case could you just quietly shred?

littlemissexcited5 · 05/01/2014 18:22

Hi, I am also having the same problem as JaneLeavey, it won't let you submit a second entry as says the username and email are not unique. Can someone from admin let us know what to do?

Many thanks.

Cat2014 · 05/01/2014 18:23

I've entered twice now but because I couldn't submit two under the same username I had to register again. I hope that's ok!

littlemissexcited5 · 05/01/2014 18:27

Thanks Cat2014 - anyone else know if we can do this? Or has to be same username? Thanks.

oceane1 · 05/01/2014 19:00

I've entered twice by putting a different username and email address. It's the only way as when kept the same it will say they are not unique.

Is this ok? As I understand the deadline is midnight today so couldn't wait from admin's response.

Emails to confirm both submissions were received would put my mind at rest. Thank you.

alfiemama · 05/01/2014 20:00

I have also entered twice. I had to use two separate emails and accounts though. Hope this is okay?

Grizlegrog · 05/01/2014 20:32

Hello rachelmumsnet - I've tried to submit a second story but couldn't. Could you pleaseexplain how we can do so. Also, could you confirm receipt of the first story too please? BWs

RocketQ · 05/01/2014 20:44

Also, have sent my own illustrations on mine, I know that it will be illustrated but it was more of a guide to show how I envision the story, hope I will not be disqualified for this as I have only just seen the thread response regarding no pictures and it was not mentioned in the ts & cs. And I too have not received a confirmation email. Thanks.

stayathomegardener · 05/01/2014 20:55

As a family effort we have sent our entry in on two different accounts but not convinced either of them arrived.....Or you could be inundated Grin

abraham · 05/01/2014 21:20

Hi all,

Just to say I too had the same problem others have had (not being able to upload an additional story), so DM'd RachelMumsnet about it on Friday. She replied late Friday evening to say she would look into it first thing Monday morning, and get back to me. Like many of you though, I too was getting edgy with regards to the closing date deadline, so have now entered a second story under the brand new Mumsnet account I have just kindly and selflessly created for DH! /emo/te/4.gif

If you do go down this route, the system will still allow you to submit a second time using the same name you used first time around (as I have just done) - as far as I can tell it is only the username and email combination that must be unique each time - so you don't have to pretend to be someone else in order to do it. As stated previously, Mumsnet have already confirmed that multiple entries are acceptable and the terms and conditions have been changed accordingly (it just seems like it's the tech side of things that's not caught up yet!)

Hope this helps to clarify - sure Mumsnet will get it sorted first thing tomorrow anyway though . . . /emo/te/1.gif

abraham · 05/01/2014 21:22

Don't know what happened there - emoticons came out as code!

littlemissexcited5 · 05/01/2014 21:56

Thanks Abraham, that's really helpful. Have done the same and will wait to see what they say tmw.

MummyInDaHouse · 05/01/2014 22:27

The closing date is the 6th, ie. tomorrow... does that include tomorrow? I'm on a roll! Can I send my finished story in tomorrow?

jollytummywobbles · 05/01/2014 22:45

I've just submitted my entry, but realised that although I've put my real name on the file I uploaded, I haven't put it on the actual document. Is it possible for me to rectify this at all?

Fuddlewump · 05/01/2014 22:52

Hello Rachel - Have sent in another story using a different email. Could you send verification please? BWs

doublesd17 · 05/01/2014 23:15

Yes can somebody please clarify if we can still submit stories tomorrow as well, although tomorrow is the closing date!
Thanks

MummyInDaHouse · 06/01/2014 09:23

Just realised I did the same as jollytummywobbles; I didn't put my real name on the document. Does it matter? I mean, you've only got my email address and Mumsnet nickname.

Hopezibah · 06/01/2014 09:55

I've made the assumption that it is midnight on 6th jan (ie can submit all day on 6th jan right up until midnight). I hope that's right as I'm planning to send mine this evening.

Tami1983 · 06/01/2014 11:10

I submitted my story but in a rush I forgot to include my name on the word attachement. I have included the title, and also filled my name in the application form part. I tried to re submit but it would not allow me as it keeps saying my username and email need to be a unique entry. I am keen to submit a copy of my story with my name on the attachment and now worrying I am running out of time. I also have one other story I would like to submit but it will not allow me to submit this, due to the same problem of using the same username and email address. Please could someone advise asap.
Many thanks.
