Hello

Is anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year?
I'm going to start it at least & hopefully finish it. I've got characters swirling around in my head at the moment & some glimpse of a possible plot...

I'm at 20k words too but we all have different pulls on our time. I've been able to steadily plod away at points in the day and I go on Word Wars a lot. Find 'em in the forums. I'm also in the virtual write-in as found in the England:Elsewhere IRC channel thread by gredgie and we chat and throw word wars most evenings.

I'm elfycat in NaNo too if anyone wants to buddy me.

GrendelsMum · 08/11/2012 19:08

Wow! There's some really impressive writing going on here! Great to see how it's all going from other folks.

Alameda · 08/11/2012 19:27

I just lost a whole chapter, am using an app on iPad and iPhone and somehow it reverted to an earlier document without warning or explanation. WHY. It's not in the cloud either.

On the plus side I abandoned the never ending description of the scuba instructor's torso and am writing an Actual Story. It's not great but I always pretended I didn't care if it was, so?

Alameda · 08/11/2012 19:28

Somehow only 2632 words but there is Plenty Of Time. There is!

elfycat · 08/11/2012 20:13

I've won several NaNos and I've yet to write a great story Alameda. I have written Novels though.

This year my characters have to stop drinking tea and chatting and actually do some of the grand fantasy stuff they're supposed to be doing.

I could also use a little description rather than just speech but I figure that's for December and the first edit!

FlyingAardvark · 08/11/2012 23:28

Just made it to 20k! Trying to build up to my midpoint and realised I needed to make my characters get a bloody move on!

Don't let my word count put you off! I do type it out quickly and always write less as the month goes on I usually only reach 50k in the last few days. I'll have plenty to work on once the month is over.

I definitely wont be writing over 2000 words a day for the next 3 days at least.

Alameda · 09/11/2012 17:13

ok nowhere near 20000 but now I have a few barely related stories on the go, one with over 5000 words, I am on the way

I could just join them up somehow at some point. Have cheated a bit and used some diary entries.

Engelsemama · 09/11/2012 21:27

have managed to get a couple of thousand done this evengin, though my mum rang in the middle and broke my stride, and I ended up doing schoolwork during DS's nap time Sad

Trying to balance out writing with domestic life and schoolwork is tougher than I thought.

Up to 12,285 so still have abit to do this weekend to catch up. My aim is to be back on track by the end of Sunday (so 18,337 - that's 3,000 per day!)

Have realised that I hate writing dialogue. It's so hard - feels really forced and artificial to me and I spend ages agonising over it. (that's what I was doing yesterday and managed a measly 500 words).

Penelope1980 · 09/11/2012 22:04

I have the opposite problem - am writing probably far too much dialougue and not enough description etc! At just shy of 10,000 new words (total of 30,000 as I had written 20,000 pre NaNo) I am well off track now methinks. Have decided to aim for 50,000 words total, so 30,000 new words.

If anyone's following me, I didn't add 20,000 words in one day cause I wrote them, I just decided to add my totals together as I liked the graphs etc. Guess that makes me a "rebel"??

Am happy enough with that - am only 1/3 of the way through my plan so looks like the total book will be at least 80,000 words so realised I do need to pace myself if I ever going to fininsh.

But, I read once that the middle of a book is the hardest part to write, so if NaNo sees me get through that, I'm happy.

LoopyLoopsOlympicHoops · 10/11/2012 02:32

18000, blowout drinking session last night so nothing written yesterday, and same planned for tomorrow, so feeling a bit frustrated at lack of time. Still loving it though, which is the main thing. :)

Engelsemama · 10/11/2012 08:10

loopy I started reading your post and thought you were going to say that you got to 18,000 because of your blowout drinking sessions and was thinking of trying it this evening

Grin
LoopyLoopsOlympicHoops · 10/11/2012 16:14

I wish.

21000 now. :)

Engelsemama · 10/11/2012 16:40

13,135 and counting. Glass of prosecco in hand Grin

Wilding · 10/11/2012 17:36

Arg... haven't written anything in about a week Blush

Someone please come and prod me with a sharp stick and tell me to get writing again!

Engelsemama · 10/11/2012 18:05

I do not have a sharp stick, but I do have a large bottle of prosecco. Will Wine work?

I did nothing for 3 days wilding and jsut got back into it again last night (and even managed to do some schoolwork earlier as well)

13,900 and counting. This is my kind of Saturday night.

elfycat · 10/11/2012 18:08

Mumsnet word war? 10 mins of typing as fast as you can to start us of on the evening jaunt?

Engelsemama · 10/11/2012 18:27

Okay, DS in bed. Starting my 10 mins......NOW!

Engelsemama · 10/11/2012 18:40

Managed 239 in 10 mins (and pissed off DH when he started to talk to me in the middle Grin )

My first word war! (though I may have been competing against myself!)

Engelsemama · 10/11/2012 18:40

pissed off DH because I shouted at him to shut up!

elfycat · 10/11/2012 18:46

I did 220 words in my ten minutes. I get most of my words done this way, there's a bit on the forum you can usually find a few people to join you for 10, 15 mins or longer.

DH has the hang of it now. I don't feel it's unreasonable to have 10 mins uninterrupted in a day. I just let him know in advance. 'I will be doing 15 minutes at half past. You could make me a celebratory cup of tea at 20 to as it'll take 5 mins to brew'. I don't get the tea usually . It did take him a few days to get the hang of what I meant by uninterrupted.

Engelsemama · 10/11/2012 19:43

That's me done for today. Am up to 15,000 so still a bit behind but hoping to catch that up tomorrow and then try to get a bit ahead on Monday (no work).

2763 today.

Happy novelling everyone [smile[

Engelsemama · 11/11/2012 22:06

Am slowly catching up - just got to 17,000 so almost back where I should be. Hoping to be all caught up tomorrow (day off).

Penelope1980 · 12/11/2012 06:26

engels sounds like you're catching up well! I am ashamed to say I actually kinda forgot about NaNoWriMo for a day or so .. Blush

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern · 12/11/2012 09:47

I have some time today.
Hope to come back later with a non-embarrassing word count.

V impressed by everyone else's!

Engelsemama · 12/11/2012 10:00
