Hello

Is anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year?
I'm going to start it at least & hopefully finish it. I've got characters swirling around in my head at the moment & some glimpse of a possible plot...

..and planning up front (eek annoying posting via iPhone as I sent my previous post before it was finished).
Good luck everyone!

Engelsemama · 04/11/2012 19:29

Broken 8,000. That's it for today. Going to try and do a couple of thousand tomorrow (not working) but also have marking that must be done, so will have to see how it goes.

have just emailed Chapter One to Dsis....quite nervous about what she thinks about it!

alameda scuba instructor's torso sounds good from where I'm sitting

OneMoreGo · 04/11/2012 19:30

Oh squee, there is a thread! I am doing NaNo too and am on about 3,500 words. I started on day 2 and have participated since 2005-ish. My usual MO is to slack off horribly and then complete the lot in the last week in a kind of mentally ill dash of panic. Sometimes I skip the last bit and then fail. Grin

madwomanintheattic · 04/11/2012 20:30

Onemore, a girl after my own heart!

FlyingAardvark · 04/11/2012 20:45

Right I want to have done 10000 by 10pm, as tomorrow life starts getting busy again and then back at work Weds evening so only going to get 2 or 3 good periods of writing during the week.

Nice to see more people taking part on here!

Alameda · 04/11/2012 20:46

I can't write 400000 words about almost having sex with someone

I have to go back to Sicily to do more research!

BustyDeLaGhetto · 04/11/2012 21:01

I'm in, but DD's early starts have meant that I am bug-eyed by the evening, and am still working on my blog. I am a slave to this machine eyes laptop, warily

I've done a fair few words but have cheated a bit by using the novel I'd started last month - I'm averaging about 1,600 a day.

Bunnygotwhacked · 04/11/2012 21:02

I've just signed up 4 days late and with no actual plan or outline but i have always wanted to write this maybe the kickstart i need

applehoodandmotherpie · 04/11/2012 21:10

I've just signed up 4 days late too. I've got 2600 words but most of those were written already. At least they give me the chapter structure that I am planning for.

I have to write another book (not a novel) in connection with my work, and I'm hoping that doing this will get me into a habit of just writing, rather than writing, analysing, deleting, re-working etc.

At least when dh complains about me being on my laptop I can tell him that I'm writing not on mn Blush

madwomanintheattic · 04/11/2012 23:26

Alameda, are you Elizabeth Gilbert? Grin
That woman can string an extended holiday out of a book advance faster than you can say 'navel gaze'...

madwomanintheattic · 04/11/2012 23:27

P'raps I should write a few proposals about having a female mid life crisis and needing some time and travel to heal me....

Wilding · 05/11/2012 01:25

Arg, totally failed to get any writing done yesterday

Am going to write a couple of thousand today if it kills me. Am slightly hampered by only having planned the first couple of chapters so am boldly striking out into the unknown now... not sure this is really the best way to go!

Penelope1980 · 05/11/2012 08:04

I must say, am still on track but it's getting harder as the novelty is wearing off. Anyone else? Or am I the first to hit the hurdle that isn't meant to come until week two? Grin

Chelvis · 05/11/2012 08:11

I forgot to start this year:O failed last year, so I really would like to do it this year, even if I have started a bit late. I need to do 1,924 words a day to catch up; here goes!

Wilding · 05/11/2012 08:38

Nope, you're not alone! I'm starting to lose impetus already too... the key for me is writing in short chunks, I think. I can do about 500 words in half an hour but then I have to go and do something else and come back later.

Can't help thinking that it would probably also be better if I had more of a plan!

Chelvis · 05/11/2012 09:12

I'm the same Wilding; just done 800 words in 40 mins, but I need a break now - and a plan!

Alameda · 05/11/2012 09:22

who's Elizabeth Gilbert?

usually I can't write about Actual Things, I have to make them up, but it's been the other way around so far

anyway I have a title now, suggested by a third party, that helps :) keep up the good work everybody

Alameda · 05/11/2012 09:23

that's just a sort of general exhortation, keep up the good work, not the title

title is 'the Sicilian and the octopus'

Alameda · 05/11/2012 11:36

ok Elizabeth Gilbert

yes, shall I drown myself now or can it wait until the water is warmer?

madwomanintheattic · 05/11/2012 13:49

arf Grin

LoopyLoopsOlympicHoops · 05/11/2012 14:31

How is everyone getting on today? I think DH is getting pissed off with my neglect of the family already. It's only day 5.

FiveHoursSleep · 05/11/2012 14:36

Yay, a nano thread! I'm trying to write 2000 words a day to make up for the days I won't get to write as much.
I'm cheating a bit and finishing something I was already 20 000 words into, but I hope to finish it off by the end of the month.
I have done nothing with last year's effort and want to be a little more proactive this year!

SolidGoldYESBROKEMYSPACEBAR · 05/11/2012 14:36

I am going to work tonight (did manage 500 words yesterday which at least lolloped the next scene along a bit).
Mind you, another pal sent me a lovely email today, which would have been welcomed a few months ago, saying Oh by the way dear, writing much at the moment? Want to do something for us?

So now I am going NO CONCENTRATE ON CURRENT PROJECT and the back of my head is going, hmm, well, what could I do with her set of guidelines. THis has to be my worst problem as a writer, either no ideas at all or too many...

Engelsemama · 05/11/2012 15:04

I managed a good hour earlier loopy when DS was asleep, but otherwise am finding it imposssible to write during the day if I'm at home. At weekends I can leave DH to it.

Managed 1300 so far, but wnat to do another couple of hundred tonight to get ahead before a couple of manic days.

Am posting word count on fb too...most of my friends can't believe what I'm doing! It's a good motivator for me.

GrendelsMum · 05/11/2012 21:40

Well, I'm still on target, if feeling pretty uninspired at times! Still, I reckon that if I don't want to write a scene, it's probably a good sign that no-one else wants to read it...
