For short stories about "journeys."

It would be great to see one fellow MNer in the magazine.

I second that! What have you got to lose? Now write another and send it off!!

Come on people. Who dares wins and all that......

schroedingersdodo · 14/06/2011 11:42

Accountability: I didn't write the story. I thought I couldn't work on too many things at once.
But I finished the first draft of my play! I'm now revising it (2 out of 9 scenes done) and after that will send to a friend who is a theatre director to see what he thinks.
Next year I'll think about the Guardian, but thanks for the support. You encourages me to work on the play, so at least I would be doing something ;)

Winners are going to be told before Friday 15th July - SO GOOD LUCK, PEEPS!

Zoidberg · 16/07/2011 17:08

Nada. Unless I somehow missed it when scanning my 104 junk emails just now, having just returned from holiday. Was a damn fine story too Grin

Punkatheart · 17/07/2011 15:16

So send it out somewhere else, Zoid. Lots of comps close on July 31st...

Zoidberg · 17/07/2011 20:56

Yes I had noticed a lot closing then, though there were even more closing end of June and I did submit to a few of those. I have one lined up for Wasafiri and one other that had a specific theme.

Punkatheart · 17/07/2011 21:29

The Manchester Fiction Prize is a really big one - closes August. £15 to enter though - for £10,000 first prize.

I attended a short story festival in Bristol yesterday SHORTSTORYVILLE. Fantastic - Janice Galloway among others. I intend to do more of these and more competitions. In the words of Del Boy Trotter:

WHO DARES WINS!!

Zoidberg · 18/07/2011 16:12

Come to the Charleston short story festival Small Wonder, I'll be there for some of it Wink

and thanks, not heard of the Mancs one.

Punkatheart · 27/07/2011 10:17

Right - have looked at Small Wonder and decided to go. Do you go to Sat and Sun, Zo? Deciding. Lots of friends are going on different days and even one friend will be 'performing'....so big decisions. I will wear something distinctive if our days coincide - like aqua gear - so that we can say hello...

Zoidberg · 31/07/2011 18:20

I will def be there Sat day time, not sure about evenings at the mo (DD still rather in need of me at bedtimes, esp if I've been out all day). Having said that, have just written my first 2 pieces of flash fiction, one of which is for the Friday night slam, just in case I get the chance. My dress will have dragonflies on it (nice - sounds like code).

Punkatheart · 31/07/2011 20:52

Right - if I go I will look out for dragonflies! Good luck with the slam!

Zoidberg · 24/09/2011 17:47

Did you go? I did the slam, didn't win, the winner won by miles though, with a very funny story about swingers.

And today, listened to ghost/gothic stories by Kate Clanchy and Naomi Alderton, and got to see my first story in published form.

Punkatheart · 25/09/2011 14:04

I didn't go alas.....my personal life has fallen to pieces and I am not in a great state emotionally. A friend of mine who was runner-up in The Asham went, another friend (Tom Vowler) read and there were lots of others there. How were the gothic stories? Lovely for you to see your story!
