Moving to NI (Warrenpoint?)

Hi All,

Sorry (!), another moving post. Back story - I am from NI, living in England a long time. For various reasons (ageing parents being a big one), my husband and I are thinking about a move to NI.

Kids are 15 (finish GCSEs this coming summer) , 11 (first year secondary) and 8.

I know it is not ideal moving ages so we are not taking this decision lightly.

We are interested in area around Warrenpoint and just wanted to know what it is like for families , sports, schools etc.

Jobs are remote but may need to travel to Dublin or Belfast the odd time.

Any insights into this would be much appreciated.

I knew a family that made this move, one parent was from NI and one from England. The one from England struggled with the weather in winter here so I’d definitely advise spending some time here in the darker wetter months before committing. It is beautiful in summer but bleak in winter.

I’m not from Warrenpoint but I’m not too far away. For secondary schools there are lot of great grammars in Newry. They take in new students for 6th form depending on GCSE grades. The grammars are single sex and Catholic ethos.
Closest “city” is Newry, which has really gone downhill in the last decade but you’d be very handily placed for days out to Dublin or Belfast

Warrenpoint has great music with the blues on the bay festival each year and a really strong comhaltas group if you’re into traditional music.

The Narrow Water bridge is under construction to greater link north & south. You’d also be a stones throw from some absolutely beautiful scenery if you are outdoorsy
