16yo wedding present as plus one

This is a request about an Irish wedding in Ireland, so UK wedding principles do not apply!

16yo DD is going as her bff's plus one to bff's sister's wedding. They will be the only under 18s attending (so DD is invited specifically for the bff, no cousins, etc there for company, if that's relevant at all). What wedding present should I give her to give them? €100 in a card ok? Or should I go a bit higher?

If you’re holding a gift in one hand then that arm is longer than the other whereas if you arrive empty handed then both arms are the same length.

Which Irish accent were you reading it in?

Another version is 'he/she arrived with both hands hanging'.

I had 6 or 7 16 year olds at our wedding, they were friends of my son and their girlfriends, definitely didn't expect gifts from any of them.

My DD was a plus one at friend’s mother’s wedding at around the same age. As far as I remember she gave the happy couple a bottle of bubbly & a nice card. FWIW I do like the newbridge decoration posed earlier.

I never heard that one. What part of the country is that used?

You don’t get anything she is going as a guest if a guest do the main guest buys the present.

Where I am it’s ‘I can hardly arrive with my two hands the one length’.

Absolutely this - regardless of country.

The main guest provides the gift from both of them.

I’ve never heard that version either! Fascinating, the different versions.

Bottle of decent champagne would be a nice touch. I am not Irish but have lived in Ireland for some time so understand why you are asking. Money from a 16 year old is an iffy one , but she can’t be empty handed.

A decent bottle does not come cheap in Ireland. You could go for a decent cremant though for around €30.

SparkyBlue · 30/03/2026 13:23

I’d give a €50 BT voucher

purplecorkheart · 30/03/2026 13:26

What about a nice card and a bottle of champagne maybe? Or maybe a card and some scratch cards. She is doing the Bride a favor coming really otherwise her brother would probably be bored.

Missingducks · 30/03/2026 13:27

A bottle of champagne sounds good to me

I think giving something is lovely and thoughtful @DurtBurd
The Christmas decoration from Newbridge is a great idea. Or a frame for one of their wedding photos.
A Meadows and Byrne voucher tor €50 would be nice too.
