Oisín O’Reilly and his father Wayne both found dead.

Gardaí are not looking for anyone else and have said they believe that Oisín was murdered by his father. Both were known to Tusla.

How can this still be happening. Male violence is an epidemic. Poor child. Go dtuga Dia suaimhneas síoraí dá anam.

It's absolutely horrifying. Poor Oisín.

Onefortheroad25 · 09/01/2026 08:46

The headline on the independent is that he threatened to kill the child before. So how on earth was he still having unsupervised contact. So tragic and preventable.

Anonanonanonagain · 09/01/2026 09:17

One report says that he has sole custody so I am not entirely sure what to believe anymore. Horrifying though that poor kid.

Oh that is just awful. It’s so fucking needlessly tragic. My heart breaks for the poor boy.

They are the dad and child there was an alert for last October when they went missing. Sounds like a horrendously difficult and complicated situation. God love the people that found them both, I'm assuming it wasn't family that found dad. So so sad

deeahgwitch · 09/01/2026 14:45

Utterly heartbreaking for all those who loved Oisín.
May he rest in peace.

Cazzovuoi · 09/01/2026 19:33

This happens far too often 😔

Very tragic and surely avoidable. What happened about that woman who tortured and killed her step son? I remember the story but must have missed the court case.

She pleaded guilty so not a big trial . I think it was just before Christmas . I assume you mean the case where the parents tried to say the child fell of the bunk beds

Abhannmor · 11/01/2026 08:20

I think that's the one yes.

MarieDeGournay · 11/01/2026 10:14

At least the media coverage of these cases has shifted towards identifying the real victim in these murders by fathers.

When Martin McCarthy killed his 3 year old daughter and then himself in 2014, I'll never forget hearing a radio presenter on Newstalk said 'That poor man, what must have been going through his mind in those last moments...'
and members of the local community defended the murderer - 'lovely man, wouldn't hurt a fly' - and turned against the child's mother.

When Alan Hawe - 'school vice principal, pillar of the community' - killed his wife and three sons in 2016, and then killed himself, the family of his wife had to campaign to have her referred to in reports - 'Her name is Clodagh'.

RIP Oisín and my heart goes out to his family.

Terrible. RIP Oisin. 💐

Boolabus · 11/01/2026 10:46

It is horrific the coverage of it is so upsetting. Can't comprehend what the poor mite went through before he died. May little Oisin rest in peace. Very hard to understand how the father still had custody access after all that went before.

Yes. It's so tragic. I feel for his birth mother.

Heartbreaking for the mother of the wee boy killed by his father’s partner. I can’t actually read the details. So harrowing.

Papercompany · 18/01/2026 01:11

I watched rte the day after this murder suicide and they had a number of neighbours on saying that he was a lovely man, always in park with child, etc. I got really cross about it - in what other instance would you describe a murderer as 'lovely'?
