Ballymoney or Coleraine

Moving with teenagers, new to the area but decided on one of these 2.

Leaning slightly more towards Coleraine as an area but have found a much bigger house in Ballymoney.

I feel like we're in an episode of Location, Location, Location and could be doing with Phil and Kirsty's help!

Hi. I'm not from the North but I'm sure there's already a thread asking about that area? Just thought I'd bump this .

Fwiw I recall people favoured Coleraine

I'm familiar with the area, having relatives including cousins who are in teaching (left recently though) and police. I'd recommend Coleraine strongly of those two. Less drugs/sectarianism/gangs, more work options, closer to coast.

Having said that, you'd really need to think about the exact location of the house. Even slight distance differences can be a big change in the experience.

Wish you all the best in the move!

I’d agree on Coleraine. There’s really not very much in Ballymoney and you’d likely end up driving them to Coleraine a lot for school/socialising, but it is only 8/9 miles.

Not much difference between them really - 10 mins in the car - You will get more for your money house wise in Ballymoney and also you will need to see if schools have places available (if your teens are still in school) no college in Ballymoney for post 16 education if they don't stay on in school they have to travel to either Coleraine or Ballymena (both have fancy new colleges). I live in one of them and my kids travelled to the other for school and I frequently go to the other for different things.

Coleraine. From what I’ve heard Ballymoney is quite sectarian still.

I am from the area and spent my teenage years in Ballymoney. Its a small minded sectarian shithole. I haven't set foot in it since the 90s but I doubt it has changed much. Dalriada was a fantastic school though, I'll give it that much. Coleraine has a bit more going for it. If I had to live in the area I would go for Portrush or Portstewart.

It depends on your cultural background. There is still a lot of sectarianism in some areas of Northern Ireland.
