My DD is moving from one student accommodation to another in September (Phibsborough to Parnell St) She has to move on a date we’re on holiday so we can’t help. Can anyone recommend a small removals service? Thx

couldn't she just take the bare minimum and you could move her on your return?

glamapple · 09/08/2025 07:40

sorry @beetr00 I forgot to say we’re in the UK and she’s already in Dublin. She cant move over a few days - has to do everything on one day. And we’re not back for a few weeks after her move date. She hasn’t really got anyone she can ask to help yet either so I thought a man with a van would be a good idea and just wondered if anyone had any recommendations…..

Hi OP, How much stuff does she have— is it furniture beds etc or 5 boxes?

when does she need to move?

glamapple · 09/08/2025 09:20

@SeoidinNo furniture- just clothes & shoes , bedding, mattress topper, storage stuff, air fryer, ornaments and books. We got it all in the back of our car (small SUV) with the seats down. Move would be Sept 13. Where she is now is not easy to park close to her building so a trolley would be v handy.

Can she drive and rent a van?

Ikea did a van rental service and there were small job rent a man and a van to assemble your purchase so she could google under that.

Or will her college be able to help her if they employ any or have a list of movers?

She could join a local Facebook group where she is now, and ask there.

PM sent

Could she do it in a big 7-seater taxi?

glamapple · 09/08/2025 13:00

Possibly @FlipFlopShopInHawaii but I think a moving service would be better as it would make the loading and unloading easy. I’m not sure about access for parking at the new building and a taxi driver isn’t going to help her with her things….

Google Man with a van Dublin. There are lots of choices. Many years ago I used a very nice chap who advertised himself as Man With a Van.

I’ve used Shiply before for moving student dc from house to house. Seems to also operate in Ireland. You post yout job and various firms / people with vans quote.

You could try here? There's a option for "Removals and Storage" which might suit.
Are there any flyers/ ads in her college? Must be loads of students in the same boat.

I've used Vanquotes.ie
Man with a Van Dublin & Ireland - Van For Moving & Removals
and got a driver who was v nice and helpful.
They are a sort of 'clearing house' site, so you put in your request and drivers offer their services and give you a price.
I hope the move goes well!
