Where to stay/what to do in Wicklow?

Hi all,

I'm thinking of doing a week in Wicklow during the summer with DH and our DDs (ages 8 & 10). Would anyone local, or who has visited previously, have any advice on good child-friendly places to stay and things to do?

I was looking at Greystones as a base as the kids love a good beach, but open to suggestions. A swimming pool would be great but not essential and we don't mind whether it's a hotel, self-catering etc.

We'll probably hit Glendalough and Powerscourt but I'd also love to find some less well-known gems to visit.

Thanks in advance!

The Glen of the Downs is nice.

Wicklow's Historic Gaol in Wicklow Town would be a good activity for the whole family. I'm assuming since you mention Glendalough and Powerscourt you will be driving so easy enough to get to even staying in Greystones.

Killruddery is great for kids, always has activities and things happening. Lovely market at weekends.

Get the DART to Dun Laoghaire, walk the peer and have an ice-cream at Teddys.

The playground by the beach in Greystones is a good one.

Not Wicklow, but close...the Explorium is easy to get to from Greystones or Enniskerry

Glenview Hotel is nice enough. We got a great family room there.

Avondale is nice www.beyondthetreesavondale.com

Wicklow is a great sport on my doorstep so I spend a lot of time in the county. The website I have linked has loads of ideas. Meeting of the waters is a nice spot for a bite to eat or picnic.

Enniskerry is lovely village to visit you are also not too far from Johnny Foxes and Zipit in Tibradden. Also up that way is the GAP, for mountain biking and nice walks

There’s a tree walk in Avondale - well worth doing.

The Powerscourt Waterfall is a lovely place to have a picnic.
