Parking outside Dublin near station

Hi, I'm hoping to head down to Dublin next week. I was going to park in Newry and get the Enterprise but is there anywhere closer to Dublin where I could park and jump on a local train? Thank you!

I’m not very familiar with the north of Dublin train stations, but I think Rusk and Lusk station has a big car park, or Donabate. They shouldn’t be to far off the M1.

Thank you, I'll check those out 🙂

You are coming from where exactly? Which train are you getting and have you it booked? Soooooooo many choices of carparks, on street parking etc if you give more specifics. Like are you driving from newry or from like belfast to newry first?

Check out the M3 Parkway. Free parking. I have a relative who does Fermanagh to Dublin who parks there. Weekdays when there is a through train. That is on a Cavan - Navan - Dublin axis so not really straight down from Newry, but you might be going to Newry because of the station.

When we discussed this he said not weekends as service not so good. All this may have changed though.

Hi, am just curious what the advantage of driving to a Dublin local station is for you? Depending on the day/time most suburban station car parks will be very tight for space, having been taken by commuters.

I'd do as you originally planned and take the Enterprise from Newry direct to Connolly station. But you might have your own reasons for wanting to drive part way too!

Have a look at all the stops on the Enterprise route and decide which one is best for you. The DART goes from Malahide, but again parking from Drogheda to the city will be tight. And chargeable too!

The enterprise stops at newry, dundalk and drogheda - drogheda has a fairly big car park but fills up early during the week. if you drive as far as Layton you’ll be on the commuter train that stops everywhere between there and Dublin Connelly.

Parking in Newry train station is free

MadeinBelfast · 12/04/2025 22:17

Thanks everyone! I'd normally take the train from Newry but was thinking of driving further so that we could detour on the way home and visit a few places/have dinner somewhere. We only need to be in Dublin for a couple of hours. You've given me lots of options to consider :)

If you do decide to drive part way, both Rush & Lusk and Donabate stations have tons of parking, you won't have any trouble getting a spot - but don't forget to pay! Think it's either €3.50 or €4.50 a day.
Also, check commuter trains are running - Irish Rail tend to do some Rail works at the weekend and trains are often off or curtailed.

Psychoticbreak · 13/04/2025 08:54

Might be cheaper to drive all the way cos the trains are stupid prices here and unless you go as far as balbriggan you cannot use a leap card so full price tickets although carpark at the stations is usually 3.50 for 24 hours if you can get a spot. Guess depends on where in dublin you need to be also cos some just go straight to connelly rather than heuston station say.
