Hello! A friend recommended an Irish language Scandi Noir type drama but I can’t recall the name. I think it’s on Netflix. Any suggestions?

How can it be a Scandi noir if it’s Irish?

verycloakanddaggers · 25/02/2025 06:20

The op says 'Scandi noir type' which presumably means in that style.

OP: can you remember anyone in it, as you can search by actor? Or tried searching for Irish language and crime?

Doh! Found it. It’s Crá. Hope it’s as good as she said!

Oh well if it's on BBC iPlayer that's the end of me being able to watch it 😔
There's so much I would love to watch on there.

Found it on TG4!

I can watch iplayer using a VPN, I use Pure VPN but there are lots available.

Its a TG4/BBC co-production.

it’s good if you like slow moving, small-town-full-of secrets and lots of scenery type crime. Apparently some of the Irish is dodgy, allowable as forensic and other experts are from Dublin etc. So a chance for English speaking actors to try out their school Irish.

Absolutely and completely different is another short series from BBC Northern Ireland. Funboys. A group of video game playing teens in a small town coping with one getting a girlfriend. Completely bonkers and very low budget. Written by a couple of the actors.

A small offering to fill the gap before the next series of Blue Lights.

Something else that popped up on iPlayer last week is the film That They May Face the Rising Sun. 2023 film. Again it looks as if BBC NI put some money in. Slow depiction of rural Ireland and the impact of emigration. Very beautiful.

deeahgwitch · 01/03/2025 09:10

I found Crá ok.
That They May Face The Rising Sun was boring.
