Hi everyone!

Our family (with three young kids) is moving to Ireland soon from London, and we’d love some advice. We’re looking for a family-friendly area within a 30-40 minute drive from Dublin Airport, preferably with affordable rent and access to Catholic schools.

If you have any recommendations on good neighborhoods, schools, or general tips for settling in, we’d really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance for your help.

A lot will come down to your budget, but if you're looking for a balance between family-friendly areas, Catholic schools and reasonable access to Dublin Airport, it's worth looking at places such as Terenure, Templeogue, Swords and parts of County Meath. Terenure is especially popular with families because of its schools, parks and strong community feel, although rents and house prices can be higher than some of the other areas mentioned.

Even if you're renting first, it can be useful to get a feel for the local market. Browsing property for sale terenure dublin through McGuirk Beggan Property gives a good idea of the area, the types of homes available and what you'd be paying if you decide to settle there long term.

One tip that often catches people out is school admissions. Many Catholic primary schools can have waiting lists, so it's worth contacting schools as early as possible rather than waiting until you've moved. Also, if you don't mind being slightly outside Dublin, areas around Ashbourne or Ratoath can offer better value while still keeping your drive to Dublin Airport within your target on most days.
