Did anybody see Justine McCarthy's brilliant article in the Guardian on Lowry et al? I'd forgotten just how corrupt our politics were before the Crash.
A guy in my local described the Healy - Rae position as ' Tadhg a ' dá thaobh. Being in government and opposition at the same time. Perhaps he can appear in two places at once - like Padre Pio.

"The Cute Hoors Are Back" you declare @Abhannmor

Did they ever go away 🥲

I'd love to know how people who voted for Verona Murphy to represent them feel about her being the Ceann Comhairle.

I wouldn't be happy if I had given her my No1 to represent me.

If I were running the Dáil I would have an independent Ceann Comhairle.
A paid Government job.
Not an elected TD who then can't represent the people who voted for them.

Anyone else not get voting papers and electioneering sh*te for the Seanad elections ?
I know of 3 NUI graduates who didn’t know you had to now register.
Disenfranchised.

I voted to get rid of the Senate in the referendum on it.
So probably Karma 😀

I voted to keep it ...no matter how crap it is I never vote for less democracy. Wasn't Regina Doherty leading the campaign to close it ? Before she was booted out of Meath East and became Senate Leader of course 😂 😂. Not sure if that was before or after her historic address to the Scottish Assembly - where she told them there were nine genders. Some days you're proud to be Irish. Others....not so much.

Regina Doherty - isn't she earning big bucks an MEP now?

She is. Voter turnout for EU , Council and Seanad isn't usually great. These mediocrities survive through sheer inertia , continually failing upwards.

I'm wondering how many of the Taoiseach and Tánaiste's Seanad nominees are candidates who failed to get elected in the recent General Election.
