Recommendations please! I’m attending an appointment with 19yo DD near UCD next week and we’d like to treat ourselves beforehand. Preferably somewhere along the coast in Howth or Blackrock but we’re open to suggestions as long as there’s good parking nearby (we’re driving from Belfast)

Many thanks in advance!!

Howth is a very long way from UCD!
Donnybrook/Ranelagh would be closer

SleepPrettyDarling · 16/11/2024 22:13

Roly’s Bistro in Ballsbridge

ManhattanPopcorn · 16/11/2024 22:31

Howth is a long way off the M1. How about Malahide?

I know - we’ve been before and love it though, plus we have time to kill

Love Malahide too! Any good recommendations?

Any restaurant in howth is nice

StSwithinsDay · 16/11/2024 22:40

Avoca in Ballsbridge is lovely.

I worked in blackrock. It's small. I wouldn't say that any of the restaurants in blackrock are amazing.

There are some great places in howth. What kind of food do you like?

You mentioned wanting to be on the coast - Gourmet Food Parlour has an expansive sea view.

If you don't necessarily want to be directly on the coast you could also take a look at Avoca and The Garden House.

If you want more of a restaurant than a coffee shop try Townyard.

Avoca in Ballsbridge is lovely.

Just googled - menu looks lovely! Definitely a contender. Anyone know where would be good to park nearby?

The traffic in and around Dublin is insane at the moment.
Do factor that in re getting to any where.

teenboymom · 20/11/2024 23:49

The greenary in malahide/portmarnock do a gorgeous brunch

TamiTaylorIsMyParentingGuru · 21/11/2024 11:04

The Avoca at Dunboyne is out of your way a bit but by far the best one - you could definitely kill a large amount of time in there!

Alternatively, stop off at Stranfield on your way down and then get down there a little later. It’s always worth a stop.

As a PP said, Blackrock hasn’t much in it - but Goatstown has a few nice places and out towards Dundrum there are nice places too.

For a mooch around then Donnybrook Fair is worth a wander. (Not big, and definitely spendy, but lovely for wee bits and pieces coming up to Christmas)

TamiTaylorIsMyParentingGuru · 21/11/2024 11:07

Also think about what time you’re arriving into Dub at - the Port tunnel saves you a ton of time but you don’t want to be hitting it between 6am-10am southbound or 4pm-7pm northbound as it’ll bankrupt you! (DS is at UCD and lived on campus last year, and 3 lots of tolls each ways fairly adds up when we drive)

Avoca is owned by Aramark who provide food for refugee centres and prisons etc and their track record on both isn't amazing. How anyone can support them is baffling.

BrennieGirl · 21/11/2024 15:38

There's also an Avoca in Malahide with lots of parking.

I hate that this is the case...I loved Avoca 😢
