Tesco price match substitutions?

When did Tesco finish this does anyone know ?

It's for online shopping and if the product wasn't available they gave you a higher priced item for the same price.

They still do it, but if your item was on special offer & is out of stock they will offer an alternative but don't price match it. For instance salmon fillets were on offer at 3 packs of 2 fillets for £10 it was unavailable on the day so they sent 2 different packs of 2 at £4.85 each instead, I was annoyed so handed them back to the driver for a refund.

A while back i would say, I bought a £7 tray bake that wasn’t available and instead I got sent a packet of £1 jaffa cakes 😂

They still offer price match on substitutions, but at no point have they ever promised to replace an out of stock item with a higher priced item. It's down to the person picking your order to decide on a suitable substitution and sometimes that might be more expensive than your original item, or sometimes it's cheaper.

There are times when the picker doesn't seem to apply common sense, as in @chattyness example - if you order 6 salmon fillets, then they ought to provide you with 6 fillets. Unfortunately, it really does just come down to the staff member doing your shopping and there is a definite lack of consistency.

Sometimes it works to your advantage - I once ordered 3 small bags of mini eggs and they were substituted with 18 much larger bags. Somebody obviously got the weights mixed up when trying to calculate the fairest replacement, and I had a very happy Easter as a result!

this is what they have in their FAQ

We ‘price match’ our substitutions, so if we’ve offered you a more expensive product than the one you ordered, we’ll only charge you the price of the original item.
If you have purchased an item that’s part of a multi-buy offer or meal deal and we send a substitute that is more expensive, the price of the deal may increase. If you don’t want to pay the extra cost, you can choose to refuse all the items picked for the deal and get a refund instead.

I can't find that in the faq ? I'll have another look.

They always subbed my out of stocks with something similar and if it was a higher price I only paid the price of the original product.

I rang this morning over some subbed items and I was told that finished years ago !!! TBF I've been lucky for while where most things were in stock or if subbed it wasn't a higher price.

They had selection boxes 3 for €10.00 and they were short one so gave me a completely different one for €7.00 and charged me €5.50 each for the other two , so I was charged €17.50 for 3 selection boxes😳

Could you link that please. I've re read through the whole of the faq and still can't find it, just so I can get back on to them. Thank you

Is it different for your country (€), so not the UK Tesco terms?

I just saw the board, you are in Active so hadn't noticed - clearly like PP. Hope you get it sorted.

@Wendysfriend @Swizzel has kindly linked it for you ,but as you've written below they didn't have all the items in the offer available on the day so they charged you full price because you only had two & didn't meet the criteria,,then they subbed the third with a selection box which they also charged you full price for because it wasn't in the same offer bracket. i would have handed them back to the driver but sometimes you don't spot this stuff at the time, epsecially if you have a lot to unpack.

I've learned my lesson with this and either tick the no subs box or write "subs must only be in same offer price" for everything I order that's on offer. I also check my email receipt so I know what to expect and can ambush the driver straight away before he starts taking the crates off the van 🤣

The gas thing is I end up writing in most of the boxes what to sub for but assumed as the selection boxes are not long out that they'd be in stock. I should have and would usually write only offers of the same price. I only got them because one of my brother's is coming home this weekend with his kids and I was going to give them one each , now to decide who gets the dearest one 😂

I'd no idea the offer was finished about getting a higher priced sub for the same price as the original item. I kept insisting to the woman on the phone that the offer wasn't finished😳😳

I don't think it has finished, its just things in special offers that don't get included
