Time of The Toy Show

It's that time of year.... The Late Late Toy Show preparations have begun. But Jesus I've never seen anything like the negativity online around its start time. It has always been at 9.30pm, which admittedly is pretty late for little ones, but then toys aimed at them are usually in the first half an hour anyway. It seems to be a massive issue this year, so many parents commenting underneath articles giving out that it should be earlier. Why is it suddenly becoming such a huge issue?

Some people love to have something anything to complain about.

I haven't watched it years but when mine were younger it was repeated on Sunday earlier, does that not still happen?

Royalshyness · 24/09/2024 08:06

When our children were young we used to watch it on the Sunday afternoon
now it’s available in player - so I agree less need to be complaining

its a lovely show

The late late show was always @ 9.30pm, after the traditional watershed time.

The toy show started out has a topic filler as a 30 min slot at end of man show which took off. No kids were up watching that in 1974, that's for sure.

Very few would have been up @ 9.30 for subsequent show in 1975.

RTE knows how to charge for advertising slots during LLTS

I think it is still shown on the Sunday morning, is it? Anyway in this day and age with the RTE player and recordings on Sky etc there's hardly a need to be up in arms about the time. @DublinFemale you are right, people do like to gave something to complain about!

I wouldn't complain online but now that you ask yes I do think it's too late to start. It's one thing staying up but another hanging around for an hour exhausted waiting for it to begin. The Saturday repeat is fine but if you have kids of different ages this doesn't work, unless you want to stay up with older kids Fri night then get up and do it again.

In a world where kids can watch anything at any time it's part of the magic of it that it is on late.

I agree!

I think the time is fine. All mine grew up looking forward to it, can't remember if any of them fell asleep 🤔 don't think they did. I remember as a kid waiting for aul Gay to come on the telly.... Ooh that sounds rude 😂 it was bath nightdress and large bar of dairy milk shared, that's when it was a proper size and not those mini yokes.

I think people will moan about anything these days 🙄 as others have said it's repeated and you can record with sky and rte player will have it for ages, all they have to do is get up Saturday morning and pretend it's on for the 1st time.

Didn't tv3 try do an early one and it was a disaster ?

PurpleDiva22 · 24/09/2024 19:00

That's right @Wendysfriend the TV3 one was earlier and was an absolute disaster!!! I don't ever remember there being a big thing about the time before, just have seen it so much on social media this year. Seems a bit ridiculous!

I'd prefer 9 but I just love the whole thing!

Ballygowenwater · 26/09/2024 11:44

Agree with preferring nine but that’s because I can never be arsed waiting for the news to end 🤣 but I definitely don’t think it should be on earlier, the late late toy show is what it is, take it or leave it….

pontipinemum · 12/11/2024 13:49

When I was a kid (90s) it was great it meant we got to stay up really late and go to the shop for sweets.

My eldest is only 2 so I'll record it and watch it at a convenient time. Like most people can do. But when they're older it'll be sweets and a late night
