Is anyone with either of these and can you recommend which one to choose . I'm currently bill pay with Three and seems a silly amount to pay monthly compared to these prices .

ILs are with 48 and seem to get on fine with it. What are you paying with three? You can get a sim only plan. And if you have broadband with them as well the sim only is €10 a month

Thanks for your reply. I'm paying 30 per month for all you can eat. I seen that the sim only with three is 20 quid. The plans 48 and Gomo are the same as what I'm on and so much cheaper for 12.99. Our broadband is with sky . Think I'll definitely change over.

I'm with 48 and its been great, they use the 3 network so the coverage is excellent. The one issue I've had though is roaming, it works eventually but every single time I have to get on to their customer service to get talked through what to do, it doesn't just automatically switch for me like it did when I had o2.

That's good to hear about the coverage. The roaming won't be something I will use. I've been looking at SIM free phones most of the day, god just so expensive, they seem to have jumped up in price overnight, thank you for your recommendation

@Wendysfriend can you keep the mobile you have? Get it unlocked if you're out of contract

Wendysfriend · 03/07/2024 20:19

It's in bits needs replacing unfortunately.

Whats your budget? What I would recommend is switching to a phone company briefly and taking advantage of their offers for switching to their PAYG. The phones are all generally unlocked nowadays anyway, its not like when you used to get a phone and not be able to use it because you switched networks.

I got a new phone about a year ago and took advantage of the vodafone offer at the time for 100e off a phone when I switched. As I didn't want to move away from 48, I didn't even switch, I just paid for a payg sim from 3 (sim didn't cost anything but I had to put a 10e credit on it but I think that can be bypassed if you get the sim online rather than in store) then waited a few days and switched it over to vodafone, I then put in my 48 sim and started using it.

Theres always lots of threads on boards about offers on phones using the switching method but the phones on offer at the time do vary

Google Pixel 7A €239.99 when you switch to 3 PAYG (not Vodafone!)

Serious bargain at the moment. I purchased in store with a Tesco sim no bother. I had to purchase a €20 sim plan for one month Also it is sim free.

Thanks for that, something I hadn't considered.

@Wendysfriend I've had two good phones out of the CEX shop as well. If you get A rated ones they come with a 2 year warranty and they are very good about just swapping for a new phone

Do you mind me asking where you went. I have been to London and Croatia and was no way able to connect. Only thing I don't like about 48

Both in London and in Italy. I've been able to get it sorted by going on live chat with them both times but its a pain to have to spend ages doing it when other mobile networks are fairly seemless with roaming. Never works when I go over the border to NI but I'm generally just going for a few hours so I don't bother trying to sort it out.

When I had done it once through getting on to them on live chat I thought I wouldn't have a problem the next time and followed the steps and changed the settings they told me but it still wouldn't work the 2nd time and I had to get on to them again. I think something their side needs to be adjusted as well to make it work.

Great network, price etc except for the roaming.

I'm with 48 and my dh and three teenage daughters we have never had any issue with connection anywhere. It is really good value I pay €13 a month for each phone and they get unlimited data etc. Going overseas is a bit of faff to get the settings right once there but it works fine once you do and with their app you can easily keep an eye on the data you are getting free without going over. Google 48 roaming and there is information on how to do it. Honestly we have had only good experiences with it and it is so affordable particularly when you are paying for teenagers phones, I recommend it to everyone

All you need to do for roaming is go into sim manager on your phone, click when abroad, click network selection, then click manual (as opposed to automatic) and then click international roaming profile. It will search best local provider. It always works for me
