European Elections (Ireland) 2024

I'm actually not sure I needed to put the bit "Ireland" in brackets there since Brexit but this isn't a thread about Brexit. It's a thread about the people being sent to the EU to represent Ireland.

Did your preferred candidate get elected or not? Who do you think will get elected from your locality?

I was gobsmacked at how long the ballot paper for the European Elections was this time. I do love our form of electing people (SFV) rather than FPTP. If you apply your vote cleverly, you can actually watch how it moves through from one candidate to another.

Anyway - just thought I'd start a post so we can discuss the results as they come through from the count centres.

It was only on the 19th, yes, you read that right, the 19th count of the votes that we got more than one MEP elected in Dublin.

Two of the candidates were elected without having reached the quota and two were finally elected after redistribution of eliminated candidates votes.

WOW!

The people working in the count centres really did earn their money on this one.

I agree that all the people counting the votes deserve a shout-out - especially when you had 26 names on a ballot paper which was so big they had to build special shelving/pigeonhole units to hold them!
Fair play to them, and to the rest of the election staff who make polling stations and count centres spring up overnight like mushrooms and then disappear till the next timeSmile
