Currently have a joint bank account with dh but want to have my own account for my rainy day savings etc

Just use internet banking. It is really good and so easy to access.

I didn't know An Post did bank accounts we only have p.o. accounts for the kids, with a couple of euro in them.

What about setting up a Revolut account? You can have your own bank account and set up pockets within Revolut to save for different things. I have one for Christmas that I put €50 a month into, it adds up to a nice tidy sum by December.
