Anyone inclined to give an opinion? I am leaning towards a yes/no vote, the yes to remove what I see as sexist language in the constitution, the no because the government are so appalling in terms of providing services and rights to disabled citizens and I feel the clause is paternalistic and pushes care on families yet again

I have heard it all !! 23 million
.fgs how many schools would that build?? How many beds would be paid for in the new childrens hospital. Omg its a joke . Like its so crazy you feel like just turning and emigrating out of poor Ireland. The eu lapdog and poster boy. Try the extreme first on an electorate and try and wheel it out over europe
We are overtaxed / so many industries over regulated / controlled to the nth degree / cant speak out as you are racist / far right- intelligent conversation stunted by a tiny minority. Kids innocence threatened by a syllabus and an ideology instigated by older people. Covid LD longest or nearly in the world. Jeeze give us a break from this constant pressure !!!

miri1985 · 07/03/2024 23:05

Just reading the full AG advice and my goodness the quality of the advice he gives is very poor.

Wonder will heads roll over the leak? Interesting it was sent to all Government ministers not just O'Gorman so they're a lot less likely to find who hates their boss and decided to be a whistleblower.

I'm quietly confident in a no/no but I think turnout will be the big decider as always.

When you think of how many peoples yearly taxes it takes to get to 23 million and how they can just piss it away. I know they probably think of it as a drop in the budget as they waste billions every year on rubbish but what could 23 million have done in terms of funding hours of respite for carers? There never seems to be money to actually help carers out but theres always money for optics so we can seem progressive

VoteNONO · 07/03/2024 23:05

@Radyward yes Maria Steen put it Michael Martin the referendum is costing the taxpayers 23 million which should have been put into care facilities. On a different not many schools are closed tomorrow for the voting, how many kids are missing a day of their education for this virtue signalling farce?

Also @Radyward Sinn Féin have committed to rerunning the election if it doesn't pass tomorrow!!! I shit you not. So that would be 46 million for nothing just a huge increase in court cases when the new law of the land kicks in.

I’m voting yes no
Why vote yes?

springbrigid · 07/03/2024 23:59

JaneJeffer · 07/03/2024 23:43

I’m voting yes no
Why vote yes?

Because I think it will help in the recognition of different kinds of families while marriage will still have a status in the constitution and I’m happy for the wording to change.
I don’t think it will have some of the dire consequences some people have claimed. I’ve read widely about it, including a lot of legal analyses and that’s what I’ve decided. I committed to that vote about a week ago or so and don’t want to argue or be canvassed about it.
And if the 40th amendment vote was a simple deletion of 41.2 I’d be yes on that as well. All I’m ‘no’ on is the care referendum, and I think it’s more important to vote against that than for the deletion of 41.2.

I find it sad that people will vote to remove women from the constitution 😢

I don’t think that’s how a lot of voters see it.

@JaneJeffer same. I cannot comprehend how any woman would want our reference & mothers reference deleted from the constitution in the name of equality.
Men are still remaining. Did you see @Genderwoo post upthread men get 117 mentions, mother & women had 1 which is to be erased.

So it's not equal at all but certain women obviously feel they are being progressive & liberal with their virtue signalling 🙄

This is a screenshot of @Genderwoo post.

I'm actually suprised the brightsparks in the government didn't canvas to include "they" instead of woman & mother in the constitution . They love the aul pronouns 🤣

Usou · 08/03/2024 00:39

No no.

More bullshit.

From Peadar Toibín in simple English. The Attorney Generals findings on the referendum advice that Roderic O Gorman refused to let the Irish citizens see.

Why would you call it virtue signalling if someone voted differently than you?

The amount of misinformation being spouted by the Yes side is crazy and they lecture us on being alert to misinformation from No side.

They really do think that big coloured letters on a poster is the depth of the voters intellect.

VoteNONO · 08/03/2024 09:24

Did they not watch the debates? See the Attorney Generals advice leaked yesterday? It sounds like the Yes side are indeed deeply rattled.

VoteNONO · 08/03/2024 09:26

On a different note the country is an international laughing yet stock again due to the government. The British, American & international press have headlines along the lines of "Irish voters take to the polls under widespead confusion".

Not a good look for the govt on a global scale. Good enough for them.

VoteNONO · 08/03/2024 10:08

Btw Happy International Women's Day to all on the thread!!

Dublincailin · 08/03/2024 10:21

Can everyone here encourage all people they know who can vote to vote.

Regardless of how they vote, they need to vote.

Too many people have their lives for us to have this right,

Not to mention the many people alive currently who do not have that right in the fullest sense.

Please encourage all to vote.

Voted at 7.20 this morning. As always, I brought my daughter to "help". No matter which way, we need to vote!

DeanElderberry · 08/03/2024 10:33

Dunnit. Eased a hanging chad off one ballot paper, just in case it's a close call.

VoteNONO · 08/03/2024 10:34

Going to the polling station in an hour. How was the turnout in all your areas this morning?

@DeanElderberry could that potentially spoil your vote?

I'm not one for conspiracy theories buy I've seen many online planning on black pen & others advising against as smudged ink may spoil vote?

Is it possible to rig these elections & how likely is it?
