DD Confirmation outfit

Hi All
Please can I get the help of the craicnet hive mind.
My daughter is getting her confirmation in March and knows what she doesn't want to wear (usual confirmation type skater dresses) but doesn't know what she wants to wear. She has seen jumpsuits on next online but they are more wedding guest suitable. Shes more casual than v girly but yet knows it needs to be a bit dressy. OMG what does that look like. I don't have many to ask and would love to know what your DDs wore for their confirmation in the last few years. Happy to order online or maybe head for a day in Dublin City centre next weekend.
Yours in confusion. Thanks so much xxxx

Last year I saw everything between full on outfits suitable for nightclub to football club tracksuits!

Would she wear skinny jeans top and nice bright soft blazer?

Owannanassiam · 22/01/2024 17:55

Ooooh hello MSE, lovely to see a reply. Yes she lands between those extremes. Was thinking of something more dressy than skinny jeans and top and blazer. She saw this blazer and liked it Black and white blazer

My DD wore a two piece little suit from NewLook. Kind like the classic Channel type. We splashed on a pair of Docs to wear with it. She looked great. There were very few of the flouncy dresses.

SparkyBlue · 23/01/2024 21:17

River island online can have some lovely stuff(and some really shockingly hideous stuff) . I spotted a lovely jumpsuit and funnily I was thinking of it being perfect for DD for confirmation but we aren't until next year. Zara can be great as well.

salamithumbs · 23/01/2024 21:34

Mine are younger so no confirmations here yet but I wore a belly top and parachute pants under my alb 🙈 don't know how I was allowed out like that! I'm sure whatever your dd wears will be fine in comparison to that get up

3luckystars · 23/01/2024 21:38

We went up to a shop in Tullamore called Kode clothing.
We drove 2 hours to there and they have everything from shoes to tops, skirts and jackets the whole lot. We bought it all there and they made a huge effort with my daughter.
It a really hard age and I thought I wouldn’t find anything but they were so helpful.
All the best.

FoFanta · 23/01/2024 21:39

Two years ago my daughter wore a very plain lilac cheesecloth summer dress (midi length) from M&S, with a cropped white denim jacket and chunky white trainers. Loads of variation in style - more towards the smart casual than the wedding guest level. That's in Westport.

theleafandnotthetree · 23/01/2024 21:41

My daughter wore a forest green jumpsuit with cap sleeves and white leather runners like an adult would wear. No jacket or cardigan required as it was in May. She looked great and like herself. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit it came from Shein - it was the only website I was able to get a jumpsuit in her (very slight) size. It literally cost 15 euro. She was one of only 2 girls out of maybe 25 not wearing the skater dress/white denim jacket/chunky trainers combo though. Sadly, 4 months into secondary, there is no way she would dress that 'differently' 🙄 to others, I just about got away with it then!

I hope I posted that properly.
I was looking at their online videos etc last year and thought I’d give it a go and it turned out to be a nice day out for us both. Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies. The links and suggestions are great and will follow up. Some nice bits in river island but uk site and not available here via next or has anyone managed to order from UK site and return if needed.
It's a funny age as not child but not adult and yes agree that it would be nice to gave the confidence to wear what she wants if she sees something she liked. I would like something that could be reworn rather than gather dust in the wardrobe.
Tempted to go to Dundrum SC this weekend and see if we can find something.

Hi OP, I was lucky as in both DD’s and DS’s school they wore their uniforms!! But, my go-to when my DC have an event like this (DD graduated from school last year) is to ask someone for some photos from the event last year - then you can see what the DC in your area wear. I have realised that each school has its own "vibe" and "style" for these events, with some schools going full on glam, and others going full-on "I just got out of bed".

I would also suggest your daughter looks on Depop.ie to try and buy second hand, that is the trend in my area - South Co Dublin - for getting worn-once outfits for special occasions. Good luck.

Owannanassiam · 24/01/2024 11:58

Oh thanks great idea as she enjoys charity shop shopping

@Owannanassiam regarding river island just download the app it's much easier. No problem with returns to their stores

JoyandNoel · 24/01/2024 17:46

DDs here wore ankle length robes for the church ceremony - basically means you can wear what you like underneath, that said I would caution against a jumpsuit if she is likely to need the bathroom in a hurry! The robes are fantastic because there is no need to buy clothes that the young person might never wear again. The boy cousins got away with athleisure wear and trainers underneath. They had the advantage of having photos done at the church whereas DDs had to have photos taken the following week in school

DD1 got her dress from Dunnes children's section, I think it was just a piece of luck that I was in there one day, spotted 3 dresses on a rack, just one was her size and I just took a chance and bought it. She loved it. It fitted beautifully and looked like it was made for her. We've never seen the dress on anyone else, was possibly some sample stock they got in and decided not to stock. We got a denim jacket from Benetton to dress it down a little and this was re-used for DD2. DD2's dress was even better value than Dunnes though possibly not as nice, picked up when we were on holidays. Both had ballet pump styles from our local independent shoe shop. Converse style high tops and trainers were what many of the others wore but were not what my DDs wanted at the time.

The jacket you linked to is lovely.

H&M and New Look may have something to go with it in her size. Zara might be worth a look. Next have lots of choice online.

It's worth looking at the school website gallery page to see if you can get ideas from last year's photos. It's quite dressy round here, the Dads will be in suits and the Mums will likely be re-wearing a dress that has been to a couple of weddings or well-cut trousers and a fancy top.

Owannanassiam · 25/01/2024 06:21

@SparkyBlue hadn't thought about the app and its a great solution

@JoyandNoel and others too...I wish our school got confirmed in their uniform. So much easier as you can get anything you want for after

To anyone Dublin based....would a trip to Dundrum Saturday be worth it. Maybe the personal shopper in the centre could help as they know the stores.

Owannanassiam · 30/01/2024 07:12

Oh wise ones of Craicnet! Has anyone been to the personal shopper in Dundrum. Thinking of booking and would love opinions as it's expensive.
Thanks

I don't think I'd bother unless you were really stuck. They can be amazing but how will your dd respond to a stranger giving her fashion advice? My niece made her confirmation last year and unless the personal shopper was aged 16-22 I don't think she'd have given her the time of day.

You can set river island to Ireland, prices in euros and get delivered to home or store and can do all returns in store. Have you looked at Hollister? The confirmation uniform in Dublin is Hollister dresses, denim jacket and white runners. She might see something she likes on the Website.

Did you order the Next jumpsuit?

No help to you but I'm so grateful for uniforms and albs in our school. Especially because I made mine back in the dress like Ally McBeal days

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 02/02/2024 15:40

@Owannanassiam I've sent you a PM
I wouldn't bother with a personal shopper for a confirmation outfit.
Hope your DD finds something she's happy to wear and has a lovely day.

Owannanassiam · 02/02/2024 20:30

Sorry haven't been back. DD was sick all week and the juggling of work and home took over everything.

@Lovingitallnow you are probably right it's just I'm crap with clothes and would love her some chance of finding something nice

@LifeInAHamsterWheel thanks will go and check that out now.

@Owannanassiam sometimes you can be lucky and a member of a shop will offer help. I find this is usually met with more engagement by my niece 😀.

Honestly if she likes it and wears it rather than wearing her she will look gorgeous. Maybe consider a few pampering grooming treats I know my niece loved getting a manicure, hair put up etc, a few accessories.

Owannanassiam · 03/02/2024 16:54

Good idea Marbles. Think I will need pampering myself by the time this is over. I envy those of you who get confirmed in school uniform. Should be same in all schools. I'm only interested in the sacrament not the fashion show. OK sorry that became a mini rant!!!
