Looking for a Christmas present for my lovely SIL, who is relatively new to Irish whiskey.

He likes the Bushmills 10 year old, not mad about the basic Jameson's. I'd like to get him something perhaps a little different.

Are there any independent distilleries out there? All suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Dunville's? It's made by Eclinville Distellery in the north.

I don’t drink it so can’t be sure it’s good, but Silkie is made near where my sister lives and they all say it’s good.

My BIL, who considers himself a bit of an authority, swears by Powers.

Skellig 618 is good.

Powers wouldn't be rated as a decent whiskey at all, most comments I've heard about it is that's it's rough.

OP it will depend on your budget. We have a selection here some standard price and others more expensive.

You could try one of the Achill Island single malts, or just have a browse through the Celtic Whiskey Shop. DH is a fan of Jameson's Stout edition as opposed to the regular one, whereas I like Connemara - but that's a very smokey, peaty whiskey that a lot of people would find unpleasant.

I like a drop of Slane whiskey. Small stills and they deliver.

I like Jameson and all its variations and Teelings. I don't know any other ones but willing to try out others mentioned here

Thanks for the link to the Celtic Whiskey Shop. I bought a bottle of something nice for my friend.

My son likes 12 year old Redbreast whiskey and Yellow Spot 12 year old whiskey, he likes others too.
