I emailed this company Saltworks last week, to ask if they ship to Ireland and specifically said in particular Dublin as I wanted to send my sister a birthday gift. The reply ..... yes. Great said I, I will sort it.

I was very busy last week and DSis offered to order it herself and I could Revolut the money to her, great idea.

Five minutes later a text from her in Dublin saying not recognising my address, so I say I will deal with it on Tuesday.

Sit down to sort it and I can't find her address on their website either.

Message them on the chat function and here is the following exchange.

  • Hello, I emailed you a few weeks ago, I was told you shipped to Ireland, your website suggests otherwise. Please advise. 3:38 PM
  • Hi Troy!
  • We ship our products throughout the United Kingdom
  • Is there anything else I can help you with?
  • Ireland is NOT part of the United Kingdom. 3:42 PM

And then the killer...................

  • Northern Ireland belongs to Great Britain and whoever replied to you probably had that in mind. It's hard for me to comment, I don't know who you talked to 3:44 PM
  • When I emailed I specifically said Dublin, in Ireland. 3:44 PM
  • So do you or do you not ship to Ireland please advise in particular Dublin 3:45 PM
  • Sorry, we only ship within the UK 3:47 PM
  • And for your staff training purposes it was X

I am absolutely spitting feathers, the fuck does Northern Ireland belong to the United Kingdom.😡
😡
😡

Rant over.

I can understand your irritation that they said one thing and it wasn't true.

But for the purposes of shipping, it is pretty standard on most websites to say - UK and NI and not EU.
In fact isn't that precisely what all the fuss is about with the Brexit treaty that NI is no longer being included with UK for the purposes of shipping etc?
That everyone wants NI to be treated as one with the UK?

I have no opinion either way on the politics of this, but it seems strange to be throwing a blue fit about a company doing what everyone is campaigning for a company to do, ie treat NI and UK as one for the purposes of shipping and trade.

I emailed and specifically mentioned Dublin, Ireland and I was told yes, no problem, the level of ignorance to presume that the whole of Ireland is part of the UK is what has my blood boiling.

I don't blame you for being pissed off. Someone fucked up!

Chickenkeev · 12/09/2023 16:47

Imo (dons bullet proof vest) there is an astonishing disconnect between the UK and ROI. Growing up, we always knew what was happening in the UK, still do. It isn't reciprocal. But we are a vastly smaller country tbf.

@Chickenkeev

Agreed.

Don't even get me started with this sham of a company. Non existent customer service, no reply to emails or live chat, no way of getting them on the phone, amateur advertising on Facebook, spelling and grammar errors in their booklets in the boxes.....I could go on.

tt9 · 12/09/2023 17:02

what a slap in the face. Northern Ireland "belongs" to the UK... cheeky sod

that's fair enough I apologise I understood something different from your OP.

Yes that is piss poor to think the whole of Ireland is part of the uk

WasThereAnotherTroyforHertoBurn · 12/09/2023 19:16

@steppemum

No problem.

I think it's quiet common. I don't blame the agents, it seems to be a lack of education. Very few English people, ime, understand what went on. Especially young people.

Nothing like a typo in a post criticising another nation's education system...

It happens to me too sometimes with UK companies.
I have to be very specific that Dublin is in the Republic of Ireland and not in the UK.
Flipping Brexit has made it much more difficult for me to order stuff from the UK - with taxes/ customs charges bumping up the price hugely.
And I am just one tiny consumer.
It must be so difficult for the big importers and exporters.
But Brexit was the wish of the majority of people in the UK so I have to accept it.
