And my mother has reverted to a 1950s stereotype. Six second- and third-generation cousins of confusing removal are on the home sod and will be coming for dinner tomorrow evening. I've just taken the brown bread out of the oven and the ham is simmering. Baking operations will resume at first light.

Oh no tomatoes in the 70's were proper tomatoes with an actual flavour. Nothing like the yokes these days that have been refrigerated to death.

Not in rural Cork, they weren’t!

If your Mam is anything like mine, she's trying to find that bottle of wine that lad gave her a few years ago. The fancy stuff. Now, she wouldn't be bothered with it herself...

Oh the wine cupboard was opened and bottles dusted off. Luckily she's had lots of gifts of prosecco in recent times so we drank all of it. No apple tart (hers has notions anyway, made with rough puff) or blob of coleslaw in lieu of a salad, but there was a pavlova piled high with only the best Wexford strawberries. We poured the yanks back into their taxi and rolled home ourselves. Great night altogether.

Jaysus woman, you don't dust them! The dust infers years of....whatever. years of anything. Americans love anything vaguely old (pre 1970). Yes, i know i'm a right cow!

Oh we used to get lovely tomatoes from the local shop/pub @ChurlishGreen
