Where to buy a 'used' diamond ring

I'd like to buy a diamond ring but don't want to spend a fortune so would like to get an old one. But it doesn't have to be 'antique'. I'm not sure where to look! Is it an aution house I need to go to? There are no jewellers near me that sell old jewellery. I'd be willing to travel nationwide as I'd have to try on, online wouldn't be an option. Anyone any suggestions/recommendations on where to go or even what to search for?!

My engagement ring is second hand . I live in Sussex and we have a jewellers called whibleys who sell vintage rings .. also Brighton lanes are full of shops with vintage rings .
Auction houses also but maybe a bit more intense than a shop

York has jewelry shops which sell nice secondhand/antique jewelry.
I would look around the cities close to you.

There are also specialized online jewelry sites.

I bought this little Ruby ring from eBay. It came with a certificate of authenticity and valuation for insurance too.

Delphi Antiques, based in Dublin but they have quite a good website

Are there cash converters / wants shops in Ireland? Not sure if they're a english chain only.

They're basically pawn shops. The ones near me always have lots of second hand jewellery, sometimes some really nice stuff.

Is Dublin an option? There's one just off Grafton Street I love window shopping in, I think it's called Empress.

Have you thought of lab diamonds?

Neverinamonthofsundays · 04/07/2023 16:30

Any antique shop or pawn shop will have them. My first one came from a secondhand shop in Meath.

O' Reillys Auction House or Weldons. Google them.
Sorry I can't do links.
They have auctions every month.

Lots in Dublin I can recommend, depending on budget?

Motivatedlots · 12/07/2023 19:26

Kearns Jewellers in Smith field in Dublin.
They are a pawn shop too but reasonable price for buying second hand jewellery and they have lots of selection.

My husband had been previously engaged and his ex gave him the ring back.
We are trying to sell it and it's currently in the window of a jeweller in our local town who will take a % of the sale price when it sells.

If you're interested I can send you details about it and a photo?
:)
