I'm inclined to think his career in rte is over, and therefore any career in broadcasting, because who else would have him? So I expect he'll be primarily a writer but will strive to have a public profile whether it's by doing charitable work or similar

The Beeb might come calling.
He's worked for them before.
British audiences like an Irish voice - Terry Wogan, Graham Norton, Annie Mc etc.

I think snake is a bit strong- surely it’s more rte’s fault! I think people are loving this a bit too much tbh and he should have just gone back to work as usual and faced it (but I heard rte told him not to)

I think he’s be perfect for the Beeb, a natural successor for Terry Wogab in the patronising stakes. The uk love a soft Irish accent and faux humility!

I think it's not looking good for him but I'm not sure how it would work contractually. It's disappointing that he wouldn't just take a fair pay cut like everyone else. His nice guy image is definitely tarnished for those who bought it.

The bigger issue is that years of work on reforming the licence fee is now in the bin so RTE is genuinely facing an existential crisis at the moment. The Future of Media Commission made recommendations (that the government ignored) last year calling for ring-fenced exchequer funding. There are working groups looking at the issue. Reform of the licence fee was always going to be nightmarish because politically it's toxic but any chance it had is now gone, which is very bad news for public service broadcasting in Ireland. I can't believe that the director general was so (allegedly) stupid and that Tubridy is so greedy.

Also will be interesting to see if there were other deals.

What do you mean by a natural successor to Terry Wogan in the patronising stakes ?

He's kind of wrecked his currency for the bbc tho i think, they'll know he's desperate so prob won't offer £££. I was wondering would he get a gig in the states, he has that schmaltzy vibe they like. Will be interesting to see.

I think snake is perfect tbh. I don't hate him or anything but he should be held up to the same standard as the rest of us. He was a complete chancer.

I think he'd do well in the UK, he reminds me of Henry Kelly.
