Dead zoo (natural history museum), playgrounds in Merrion Sq and St Stephen’s Green, Herbert Park tennis, swim at the Forty Foot and Sandycove, walk the pier at Dun Laoghaire or South Wall, the zoo, Science Museum. Go for a trek in Phoenix Park. Kayak on the canal, water sports in the dock lands. Activities in the Ark or Pavilion

Do they like sport? If so you could see if there's a Gaelic football or hurling match on in Croke Park.
Another option is Dublinia (mueseum recreating historic Dublin) if they're into history. The Viking Splash tours can be good fun too. Dublin Zoo is always a great day out, just on the outskirts of the city centre on the Luas (tram).
There are playgrounds in St Stephen's Green and in Merrion Square, both on the south side. The former is very central, just at the top of Grafton Street which is the main shopping street - it has the Disney and Lego shops.

For restaurants, if you wanted to go for something a bit fancy you could bring them to Fire on Dawson St - they are fantastic with kids and you can book a table on the terrace.
Milano is the equivalent of Pizza Express and reliable with kids. There are a few dotted around town.

EPIC museum in the North quays. Very interactive, and really good for children I found.
