Namechanged for this

I'm looking for divorce lawyer recommendations in Galway for a family member please - ideally someone with experience in coercive control/abusive behaviour.

Thanks in advance!

I’m not in your area but I found mine by googling all the Law Practices in my area. I then looked at the individual profiles, I was looking for family law specialisation, female, plenty of experience (so older), and finally someone who was a partner in the practice.

I also weeded practices that I thought were too big.

I then rang the first two contenders for a free introductory chat and chose one that I liked talking to. I haven’t been disappointed yet.

Agree with the above.
Google solicitors- ideally, an older female solicitor who specialises in family law.
In my experience, they have seen it all before.
Typically, they will recommend that you engage in mediation first...probably better to show willing by engaging in it.
Mediators are not stupid - they can see the guy (or sometimes woman) who says one thing in their office, and then something completely different in the lift out of the office building.

There are no two ways about it- your relative will have to draw up an Affidavit of Means and an Affidavit of Welfare for any children involved.
If there are issues around safety, then a safety order is not a big piece of work for the Solicitor to complete.

You will see online, that people say "dont pay a solicitor". Dont do that.
Where there is coercion, it is worth the money to ensure that your family member doesnt have to deal with the spouse.
Get them into counselling as well.

A friend went with a well known practice.
They were sh*te. And the bill was huge.
Sad

She wasn't in the Galway area though.
For fear of the threat of libel I can't mention the name.

Get real life recommendations if possible.

Is there a local Facebook parents group where you can post anonymously and ask. I know it's a question often asked on a local parenting page here. Best of luck

Look at the websites for solicitors & read the profiles for family law specialists. Don't accept a paralegal dealing with your case if you can & if you can afford it, a barrister for court is worth their weight in gold.
