Nursing Home charges

What do you make of the issue? From what I've read, it sounds like politicians and officials pursued a deliberate strategy whereby some people who were entitled to a free nursing home place were charged for it. Some cases were subsequently settled (where legal action was taken) but others (who didn't know they were entitled to free nursing home care or weren't in a position to take legal action) were never reimbursed. Will heads roll? Leo is denying all knowledge and says that the four people mentioned in the MOS article aren't members of the current government.

How f*cking dare they !!!
It's not the politicians or the senior civil servants money, those who helped devise the scheme.
Those two groups are on fine salaries and even finer pensions and yet they want the people they are supposed to serve to be overcharged and suffer financially.

Its absolutely disgusting. Families are nearly forced into penury over NH fees and then to be denied a refund for over payment but if you threatened legal action you got some money back- under the table of course..omg the elderly in this country are abused at every turn. Poor home care .poor support to continue living at home. Im convinced the govt want everyone in NH as its easier than providing supported living. Im also convinced the govt are in cahoots with NH cartels ( we are going thru this with my elderly parents ) how dare the Govt hide the over payments.!! Terrible behaviour towards the citizens they are purported to serve. Varadkar doesnt care . He has a top job lined up after his stint at Davos. We were long time FG supporters up to 10 yrs ago but now i am going to find the looniest independent on the ballot and vote them in

Does anyone know what exactly was the scheme that was there before the fair deal one? My mil went into a home coincidentally at the very start of the fair deal scheme . I was often curious what was there beforehand
