Staycation Allihies or Kilkee?

Hi everyone, we're a family of 5, 19 month old, 7 and 9. Planning to go to the seaside for a week in the summer. Have booked Portugal for the summer but DH cannot come so need somewhere to go that is under 3 hours and not a hotel.
Heard good things about Kilkee but have never been. We went to Allihies last Halloween and did like it. Both are similar distances from us (Cork suburbs). Kids love playing outside, love the water and we love somewhere with good food. Any ideas or other suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

@CliffsofMohair Yes. distance of both places from us is 2.5hrs (Allihies, went last year) and to Kilkee according to google maps around 2hrs 40mins.

We love Kilkee. Lovely child friendly beach and lots of other beaches within an easy drive like Doonbeg or Spanish Point, mine love going to loop head lighthouse and then keatings in Kilbaha for food.

I know you said 2.5 hrs but honestly Belfast and the north is just brilliant with kids.
W5 ,who-what-whden-where-why childrens science interactive place
Also has stuff for young children and an onsite play centre
Public pools with slides
Arnagh planetarium
Brilliant play centres if weather rubbish
Newry -slieve gullion activity park. Great for kids if on way up !!
Cheaper than the south for activities.
Antrim coast is gorgeous. Check out the marine hotel with bunk beds for the kids in bally castle. Stunning Such a beautiful coastal town.
