As I live abroad I tend to post Christmas and birthday gifts home to family.
However postage has become so expensive I’d like to buy direct from Irish shops next year and have gifts delivered directly.
Could you recommend good websites to use?
Thanks

Arnotts.ie for so much! And so easy to make returns.

Mamette · 07/12/2022 21:49

I was going to say Arnotts too.

Thanks all. I’ve used Dunnes before. Arnotts and McIlhenneys are a great shout.

it’s mostly for my mum and sister (40’s)

Carraig Donn

BrandyandGinger · 07/12/2022 23:03

Kennys online bookstore, the actual shop is in Galway. They have a really excellent selection of books and delivery is free.

yodaforpresident · 07/12/2022 23:08

Avoca
Nine Arrow

ColeslawSandwich · 08/12/2022 09:21

Thanks very much everyone. I’d never even heard of Carraig Donn, Kennys or Nine Arrow.

These kind of places are exactly what I was looking for.

Not Carroll’s! They’re fine for tourists looking for souvenirs or gifts to bring back to their own countries but getting an Irish person a gift from there wouldn’t be very easy, I should think. Too “souvenir-y” rather than a useful/pretty gift, in my opinion.

LadyEloise1 · 08/12/2022 10:10

Dunnes - Their cashmere is lovely- Carolyn Donnelly and Paul Costello do a range for them.
Kilkenny Shop
Meadows and Byrne
Brooke and Shoals candles ( Greystones Wicklow ) - hands down the best for filling a room with scent and I've had Diptyque, Jo Malone etc.
Yvonne Kelly jewellery
Alan Ardiff jewellery
Enibas jewellery
Brown Thomas

yodaforpresident · 08/12/2022 14:19

Would also recommend Banshee Silver. I bought a beautiful necklace from there based on the Children of Lir story.

For books check out www.omahonys.ie/

There is an article on thejournal.ie today with links to local shops (some are very expensive boutiques) but they may be along the lines of what you're looking for.
www.thejournal.ie/shop-independent-and-local-this-christmas-5934090-Dec2022/

Just in case the story drops off, these are the shops they recommended:

ardmorepottery.com/
www.aprilandthebear.com/
chalkandeasel.ie/
wearemaven.ie/
www.miramira.ie/
jiminy.ie/
thelittlewoodenpeg.com/
envoyofbelfast.com/
samuicork.com/
scoutdublin.com/
plugdrecords.com/

LookItsMeAgain · 08/12/2022 14:33

There are a few others in the article, I didn't want to paste them all in my message above 😉

ColeslawSandwich · 08/12/2022 15:00

That’s brilliant, thank you so much!

Try the shopinireland website

SageRosemary · 08/12/2022 15:12

These are all places I have used personally: -

www.dunnesstores.com
Dunnes is great, good range from their own reasonably priced range to fashion and home designers like Paul Costelloe, Carolyn Donnelly, Francis Brennan, Lennon & Courtney and many more. Homeware section is excellent. They also deliver to the UK (and beyond).

www.easons.com
Ordered from here recently, very prompt delivery. Be sure to sign up for email offers for discounts

www.blarney.com
Beyond the touristy stuff, they have lovely throws, got one two years ago Avoca brand and another just lately, very prompt delivery, lovely quality. Be sure to sign up for email offers for discounts.

www.kilkennyshop.com
Be sure to sign up for email offers for discounts otherwise a bit pricey.

There's a Facebook group called Shop In Ireland, they have a website too (www.shopinireland.ie) possibly like how Etsy was in the old days, lots of individual sellers - I can recommend this seller - www.shopinireland.ie/product/superhero-frame-with-marvel-border-female/

www.cocomochocolate.com
Wonderful artisan chocolate

lilyobriens.ie
More chocolate but on a larger scale, we got their Advent Calendar last year which I refilled with chocolate this year.

www.kennys.ie
A truly wonderful selection of books from an independent store, possible to get signed editions etc, delivery just a little slow at the moment.

Blogdog · 09/12/2022 10:59

Might not be suitable for your family but cogsthebrainshop.ie is a fantastic shop for puzzles and games for all ages.

JaneJeffer · 10/12/2022 13:39

irishdesignshop.com/
Lovely things on here but a bit €€€

LadyEloise1 · 10/12/2022 14:14

I ahree with @SageRosemary - do sign up to Kilkenny.
They are always sending discounts.

ColeslawSandwich · 15/12/2022 15:14

Thanks for all the suggestions, really appreciate it.
