Breakup and keeping property

Hi,

Just looking for some advice for a friend.

She has gone through a breakup recently and they were together around 15 months. He has an expensive laptop belonging to her and is refusing to return it. Initially she said he could keep it but changed her mind once things sank in (he met someone else).

Any advice? Should she just let it go?

She told him he could have it ... I mean has she proof of purchase?

She has proof of purchase.

She did originally say he could have it and I think she should just let it go but she’s now feeling hard done by since he did the dirty on her and wants it back.

I suppose I’m wondering if small claims court would be worth a shot or if the fact she initially said he could have it would work against her?
