University in U.K.

Has anyone had DC go to university in U.K.?

I’m trying to unpick the rules relating to fees and loans and I’m so confused! I think the CTA effectively provides Irish residents with same treatment as U.K. residents but I can’t find anything specifically about loans?

Does anyone have any ideas??

As far as I can work out - you can get a loan for the fees but not the help with living costs. www.gov.uk/student-finance/eu-students. The link mentions Irish students.

They are treated the same as home students - so fees and support will vary depending on the UK country they study in. It's because the legislation around UK and Ireland is older than the EU, and therefore isn't affected by brexit

I'm in NI, but kids at Uni in Dublin. Afterwards, depending on results, one may go and do a masters in the UK. So this topic has been on my radar.

I found this link a while back:

Thanks everyone

So I can see that DD could get a loan for her fees at home student fee rate which is great but I cannot see anything that confirms that she would/would not be able to get a loan for living expenses.

Like@Run4it2 i had thought they needed to be treated the same but cannot see any mention re maintenance loans

Depends where she studies - if you look here gov.wales/student-finance-wales-information-notice-eu-exit-eligibility-categories-html - there is information on Irish students getting grant support in Wales. I assume there is equivalent information in the other countries, as the principle is that Irish students are treated as home students.
