You’re all glued to the Glenroe of The Summer Holidays methinks…

"The Glenroe of the summer holidays" 😂

I can't watch Daithi. He's just too painful. Even Ray wasn't as bad.

(But in Glenroe related news, I saw Dick Moran recently. Still a fine looking man)

Ah here - Daithí is a distinct improvement on Dickie Rock.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 23/08/2022 09:23

It's amazing how the format never changes or how the girls never change. You switch it on and it could be 1992, 2002 or 2022!

I never knew Dickie Rock presented the Rose of Tralee.

I can't stand the programme but it was a staple of my formative years. My mother loves it. Smile

Some interesting dresses this year. The green gone with the wind dress was interesting, especially Mickey Mouse ears as accessory de choix

I think Daithi is the ideal "how ya" type of culchie to ham it up for the international viewers.

I don't remember spit on me Dickie presenting it but I lived abroad for years so missed it.

Hoolahulahoop · 23/08/2022 10:10

I feel like having a Paddy Power bet for some reason 😅

CliffsofMohair · 23/08/2022 21:53

I’m calling it for Roscommon. Is there anything better than teaching the nation CPR

I missed the first 30 mins of tonight's show.

honeyrider · 23/08/2022 23:01

The Galway Rose got a lot of media attention in the week before the show because she's an undertaker. Wouldn't surprise me if she won but I haven't seen all the roses.

honeyrider · 23/08/2022 23:37

No crown for the Rose of Tralee.

Ah here - Daithí is a distinct improvement on Dickie Rock.

My DM told me that Dickie Rock fans in 1960s used to shout "Spit on me, Dickie!"

😳😳😳

Hoolahulahoop · 23/08/2022 23:49

No crown. Cutbacks 😅😅😅

CliffsofMohair · 23/08/2022 23:55

What happened to the crown! 👑. Maybe the doctor ran off to America with it.

Newbridge Silverware has done a runner!
I missed the bit of bling. It wasn't the same.

I was renting a cottage in Longford , 1995 I think. Could only get RTE. Now you mention it I'm not sure whether he presented it or just sang?

I'd forgotten he existed god forgive me.

Jeepers! They'd never wash again I suppose ?

honeyrider · 24/08/2022 08:39

Dickie was on Living with Lucy, what a horrible knob.

Hoolahulahoop · 24/08/2022 11:45

I'm sure they could have given her a trophy or a crown or something. Heard there was three of them to a room too and they had to ask for furniture too be removed to make more room 😅 the cost of living crisis bits Tralee

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 24/08/2022 14:01

From the Examiner about the tiara.

It's still a pageant though!
