Wrong date of birth on passport!!!

I just received my daughter's first passport and it has the wrong year of birth.

Has anyone dealt with this issue with the Irish passport office?
Their phone lines are so busy they aren't accepting any calls, same with the webchat.

I sent her birth certificate along with the application and I'm sure i put the correct date of birth on the application!

I've no idea what to do now

Nightmare for you, possibly try tweeting them to see if anything can be done tho I don't hold out much hope for you, they have been shocking recently as a whole at sorting stuff out.

Dunno but I’ve had the wrong name on mine for over ten years. When I contacted them about it they said I needed to send them a deed poll certificate in my new name. I don’t have a new name so can’t do that. They can’t seem to accept they’ve made a mistake.

When I got a new passport I just put the same name down as on my old passport as I was in a hurry as had booked a holiday and couldn’t cope with the stress of trying to explain the issue. It’s a pain because I can’t use it for ID. I’ve been turned down by two solicitors when buying houses but luckily could use my driving licence.

hope you find it easier to sort out. I’m considering changing my name! 😂

My son had "F" instead of "M" for years 😭

I mean I could just book a flight with the wrong date of birth but I don't want to use it for a package holiday we had been planning because she should be free as she is under 2 but because they have the wrong year down it looks like she is 3 so we would have to pay extra 🤦‍♀️

Sorry it's 1 year out so she's seen as 2 so we would have to pay extra

You need to keep trying the phone lines. I managed to get through eventually and to be fair they were very helpful.

Try first thing in the morning as they open.

Try your local TD.
Mad I know, and I totally disagree that they should have any influence but apparently they do.

Somatronic · 07/06/2022 09:26

TDs have a separate phone line for the passport office so it's worth trying them.

poppyart · 07/06/2022 09:40

@Pollywoddles thanks, how long did it take you to get through? I'm working from home so i can just keep trying throughout the day 🤷‍♀️

We had this with our youngest, not wrong year but wrong date. We only noticed after using it twice and on the way back into the country the passport officer noticed 🤦‍♀️
Luckily wasn't too much of a problem.
Ours was with the English passport office we had to apply for a renewal but send a covering letter to explain it. It wasn't a problem and no fees were payable as it was their mistake (I always scan applications before sending them and even if I didn't they had his birth certificate so should have flagged if there was an issue)
Unfortunately they are all very busy so you will probably just have to keep trying - I emailed them as I felt it was easier to explain and send scans that way rather than over the phone - is there an email you can try?

I've git through and in their queue 😁

My previous passport arrived with someone else's photo in it (about 11 years ago). Fortunately for me it wasn't as bonkers busy as it is at the moment and they were able to sort it out when I sent back the passport with a new photo for them to use.

Sorry, no useful advice except to keep trying them. I'm also not sure about travelling with a passport with the wrong date, it probably wouldn't matter ordinarily but there is a noticeable difference when there are very young and you might get issues from a suspicious passport official. We had a sticky moment when we were flying back from a holiday and discovered that DS's passport had been issued with the wrong sex (UK passport office that time).

Pollywoddles · 07/06/2022 10:10

@poppyart It took about an hour but I was ringing during lunch break. Finally got through just after 2
