I just heard Dervla Murphy died at 90 today. She was my favourite writer. She was such a unique person who ignored any expectations and travelled the world at time when when it was very unusual. She was an unmarried mum in Ireland when that definitely was not the done thing.

I loved and still do love reading how she traveled to so many places that seemed (still do really) so exotic. I may not have traveled so far but her books planted a seed that you can do what might seem impossible in life.

If you’ve never read her books I’d so recommend all of them (my favourite will always be Where the Indus is young)

Read a number of her books years and years ago (I'm old). Ireland to India on a Bicycle. What an utterly phenomenal woman, total adventurer, and vivid and natural writer. RIP Dervla. 💖
