Where was this money/housing that is now being put into setting up Ukranian refugees? We had no money to house the current homeless or the poor things in hell holes they call direct provision. Just watch rte programme to see what the government see fit to house people that come from Nigeria, Syria, Afghanistan etc. In. Although I'm sure they won't show the true side of it. No privacy and at least 30% are children.
I am all for helping the Ukranian refugees 100% or any refugee for that matter. However I can't help thinking of the individuals who are homeless, living in hotels or direct provision why they weren't good enough to be housed and clothed. This is NOT a slight on Ukrainians but more on our government. I can't say it out loud because people are very sensitive, naturally, about the current situation and think it is a slight against Ukranians. It isn't and I know they need help and can only imagine the fear and heartbreak for them. I would absolutely fear and hate to be in the position.
I just don't understand why no one in the government is asking these questions. That's even without looking towards the cost of living and many more who are going to be on the breadline and needing support even though they work 40 hours a week.
There was no money for an ever failing health system who couldn't cope with covid levels if they reached 500 people. Mental health services are strained. Education systems are strained.
