A few of us were enjoying this last year. It's back on Tuesday evening at 8.30.

I like this show but Amanda Bone is a painful rude dose. I remember reading the former interior designer and herself didn't get on.

LadyEloise1 · 14/02/2022 08:45

Looking forward to this.
My taste and the guest architects' taste ( apart from Hugh ) are very different.
Amanda's taste is very different to mine and she can be a bit mean in her comments.
I liked Deirdre as a judge. I liked her clothes style too.

TaTuirseOrm · 14/02/2022 16:23

Oh yay! Looking forward to this.
I think Susie had a baby recently, so there's a new person - no idea who though!
Some of Amanda's comments were very cutting 😮

Puppalicious · 14/02/2022 20:58

I loved Amanda. I find sometimes on RTE it’s all a bit gushy and fawning about everything so I have to say I thought her sharpness brought a bit of overdue bite. But maybe I’m just mean 😄

JaneJeffer · 14/02/2022 21:10

I don't know how anyone lives in those houses. Where's all their stuff?

Taytocrisps · 15/02/2022 20:49

Well, are you watching? The first house is fabulous but soooo big. I preferred the small terraced house in Dublin - full of colour and personality. Predictably, Amanda hated it. I miss the interior decorator from the last series. The new one is a bit quieter.

An architect friend of mine claims she’s far nicer than her tv persona. Mind you, just after she said this, everyone else present made sceptical faces and did imitations of her horror-struck expression at kitchen islands.
Taytocrisps · 15/02/2022 20:59

The third house was nice but there was too much green for my taste. And I quite like green.

I liked the third one the best.
The first house was amazing but had no internal doors that I could see.

theleafandnotthetree · 18/02/2022 12:10

I thought the first house was mostly the product of having a shit tonne of money thrown at it, it was impressive in its way but as a 'home', I'm not so sure. The third was grand and nicely done but agree with Hugh, a bit too 'done'. It seemed very effortful which in clothes as in homes, isn't really my style. The second was very individual, homely, eclectic and the one I would choose to live in, certainly if it was just me by myself.

LadyEloise1 · 18/02/2022 13:06

I thought the second home was overfilled with stuff. And all that dusting.......sigh.

Procrastination4 · 18/02/2022 18:32

A common complaint from the three of them was that the third home “didn’t show the owners’ personalities”, yet the first house, the most devoid of personality gigantic box I’ve seen to date on this programme won? The mind boggles!

Agreed! I think it was that they didn't particularly like the third home owners personality actually, found it a bit contrived and stylised. Which they all are of course, some just manage to do it more effortlessly than others. No one would enter something like this unless they cared very much about how things looked.
LadyEloise1 · 02/03/2022 09:22

I loved the house in Co, Down that went through to the final. Amazing views - imagine waking up to that every morning.
I also loved the Tipperary farmhouse. What a lovely interior.
The Dublin house was a bit maximalist for me.

theleafandnotthetree · 03/03/2022 11:42

I say this every year but I really think they should do categories like 'country cottage' 'period pad', 'city creative' etc. It's unfair to put the average semi- detached estate house up against a Georgian mansion with high ceilings and marble fireplaces or the likes of the house in Down with the jaw-dropping views, they wouldn't have a chance of getting to the final.

TaTuirseOrm · 03/03/2022 14:01

I agree with you @theleafandnotthetree. I said the same thing to DH when watching this week.
The voice over at the start says something like "3 very different homes" but I'd prefer if they compared similar types, that way you're choosing the best cottage/renovation/contemporary etc...
I've no idea how they group them into threes, does anyone know?

Countmeout · 03/03/2022 14:11

Agree it’s unfair to put such different homes together. It always seemed the one with ‘architecture’ wins. Should be called architecture of the year I didn’t like that you couldn’t walk out of your kitchen down to the garden and maybe beach in the Co. Down one.but I have a thing about being able to get out from my kitchen through big doors.

LadyEloise1 · 03/03/2022 16:19

I totally agree re categorisation of the houses. It is terribly unfair as a mansion is being compared to a semi d house in an estate a development.
Far better to have a winner from the cottage section, new build mansions section etc.
But the categories would be difficult to sort. 😱

Do people nominate their own home or does a professional who has worked on the property nominate the home ???

LadyEloise1 · 16/03/2022 09:22

I loved the family home overlooking the sea on last night's show.
Imagine living there- gorgeous Envy
The maximalist cottage I could admire but not live in - all that dusting Smile. The garden was magical.
Didn't particularly like the minimalist home that won. It lacked soul for me.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 16/03/2022 09:24

yeah I didn't like the minimalist one, and the owner was quite full of herself so that put me off too Grin All that white and black is too stark for me. I did like the kitchen cupboards though.

And why oh why do so many of them say - it reflects my personality - it's such a cliche!

Yeah, she came across as a bit of a dose alright. I think the house was very beautufully done but almost too controlled and restrained. I would have zero desire to actually live there. The 2nd house should have got through I think, much more of a home but also very stylish
LadyEloise1 · 16/03/2022 13:05

There is a house near me that was in the competition some years back.
It didn't get through and I always think, as I pass it, that the owner was robbed of the chance by poor judging. 😀
It is gorgeous.

JaneJeffer · 29/03/2022 00:01

The music on this programme drives me round the twist.

LadyEloise1 · 03/04/2022 09:28

Final on Tuesday. Some homeowners were robbed of a chance in the final, as always, as it's so subjective.
I do like my property porn Smile

LadyEloise1 · 07/04/2022 15:57

Was it a worthy winner ?
