Hi,
I have a bank account in ireland, but i have been residing in Northern ireland for the last 5 years. My husband is receiving some inheritance money from Europe and since we plan to move back back to Europe soon, he doesn't want to put all this money in his British account, pay lots of fees to later transfer all this money back to Euro.
Can i receive this money (>50k) into my irish account or will i have to show proof that is an inheritance? will i have to pay any tax on it (all the legal stuff has been done by my husbands family lawyer, i am just trying to make sure that once i receive the money there is not going to be further implications i didn't know about).

Thanks!

As long as you have proof that it's an inheritance and not money laundering I reckon the money can be transferred to your account. The easiest thing might be to add your DH's name to your account.

From memory if you're lodging over €10k you're asked where the money came from but it's just noted on your account. We've deposited a similar amount into an account and were asked the source.

I'd expect if there's any inheritance tax due depends on the laws and rates in the country of source.
