What are they fighting about in that Wexford school?

Articles saying the Bishop has been called in to mediate. Then a few days later articles to say that some senior Gaurd has been called in to sort it out 🤔

What on earth are they fighting about?
Is it between two teachers or between a teacher and a family.

Whatever it is, nobody's shrugging and saying ah look let's agree to put it behind us.

Who is from Wexford!?

No idea, and not from the area, but here in case there are any nuggets of insight from locals.

Something not dissimilar took place years back in a small national school in my neck of the woods, which turned on a high-handed, unpopular principal getting on the wrong side of staff and parents, parents withdrawing their children in protest, and the school eventually closing because, even after the principal left, the children had settled in other schools, and their younger siblings followed them.

Some insight there thanks. Sounds they're trying to run somebody out of town.

Oooh I'd love to know too! The board of management have quit, the Bishop appointed a manager (who was apparently a very experienced school principal) last year but he only lasted two weeks or so. Now this garda has been appointed as school manager. All I've read is because of a "breakdown in relations". It all sounds like a huge mess, and stressful for the poor children.
I'd love an insider view!
Here's a bit of the story from Wexford - but I still don't understand what's going on m.independent.ie/regionals/wexford/news/it-breaks-our-hearts-to-write-this-open-letter-parents-of-school-at-centre-of-crisis-make-direct-appeal-to-bishop-of-ferns-41274266.html

I would love to know too. There are some comments on Facebook suggesting it’s conflict between a newer principal making changes / ruffling staff feathers and bullying but I’d take all of that with a pinch of salt as it came across as speculation rather than being based in fact. For things to get to this point it must be pretty bad though.

UserBotTrending · 28/01/2022 19:48

It's actually surprising how little detail is in the comments! People who do know don't want to offer it up on facebook. Which is unusual. Normally people get in there in the comments with their opinions.

SoyMarina · 29/01/2022 22:36

Why has a bishop been called in?
Is it a catholic dispute or a Father Ted sequel??

UserBot9to5 · 29/01/2022 22:55

Well it would beca school linked to a parish, and it was hoped the bishop of the diosces could de-escalate but it seems like that was not achieved

BliainNua · 29/01/2022 23:56

I would imagine the Catholic Church, with the Bishop as rep, is the school patron.

Joolsin · 30/01/2022 01:44

I've wondered about this too, all the articles are so vague on details. Sounds like a hot mess and a very toxic workplace.

minniep · 30/01/2022 10:02

Same here. Normally you can read between the lines and you can figure it out but this is just odd

mollymcguire · 30/01/2022 10:08

I'm actually from the parish albeit the other side and other school and we haven't a clue what's going on either!! It's all very quiet and behind closed doors,

That’s even more mysterious. And disappointing! I was hoping for Dark Insider Accounts.

Though it’s probably standard enough ‘Unpopular Principal Alienates Teachers And Patents Take Sides’ stuff…?)

MadeForThis · 30/01/2022 10:22

It sounds more than just a clash of personalities. Is the existing principal still in their post?

Joolsin · 30/01/2022 13:37

Or it could be 'new, keen Principal tries to make needed changes, longest-serving staff dig in heels and become mutinous'

Such a mystery!

How mysterious!! I must give up now. If you're from this area and don"t know then i'll have to call getting hold of this information a day
SoyMarina · 30/01/2022 13:48

So the bishop won't get involved and he puts a Policeman on to it!!
If it wasn't so bewildering and down right unfair on the pupils I'd think it was a very bad comedy......only you could not make it up!!

mollymcguire · 30/01/2022 14:45

I've done a bit of asking about seemly it's a conflict between a teacher and the new principal that allegedly ended up in a physical fight and the gaurds were called? How true this is I don't know it's third hand info

TaTuirseOrm · 06/04/2022 12:24

Saw in the Indo today that the school has now closed for the week, until after the Easter hols, due to lack of staff.
Just one parent quoted as saying "it's not covid related". Have all the teachers walked out?
m.independent.ie/regionals/wexford/news/school-threatened-with-closure-by-bishop-forced-to-shut-this-week-due-to-staff-shortages-41525554.html

I really feel for those poor children, as if there hasn't been enough disruption to their education 😔

LadyEloise1 · 07/04/2022 15:56

Oh my !
What a difficult situation.
What do working parents do ?
Children missing out on classes and socialisation. Surely class teachers could still teach via Zoom ?

SuddenArborealStop · 11/04/2022 10:49

There's a parents interview with a local radio station here pod.space/morningmix/staffing-issues-cited-as-the-reason-behind-the-closure-of-cushinstown-national-school

It doesn't sound like the parents fully know what's happening either, though they've been unusually patient. Such a strange situation.
