Irish chocolate/sweets

Hi,
I'd like to send some chocolate/sweets to someone in UK that they can't get there.
So far I've only come up with milky moo mints, purple snacks, yellow snacks and pink snacks.
I had thought of golden crisp and mint crisp but it seems you can get these in the UK in some supermarkets.

I have sent them crisps before so want to steer clear of these please. It is for children as well so want to avoid butlers and the like.
Many thanks.

For info. Cadbury’s Fruit & Nut and Cadbury’s Turkish (ONLY the small bars) are made in Ireland and taste delicious in comparison to the UK made ones. Also Cadbury’s Time-out are also made here.

Crepuscularshadows · 11/01/2022 18:45

Cadbury mint crisp - I used to be able to get it in Sainsbury's but they don't stock it any more. I crave it. UK Cadbury chocolate is minging.

PippaD1 · 11/01/2022 18:54

ASDA definitely sell all the Irish Cadbury stuff but not the proper Tayto! We can get the shortbread snacks here no problem. How about Emeralds?

ShoppingBasket · 11/01/2022 19:27

Thanks all, mint crisp and fruit and nut are my favourite ones. Currently have a mint crisp chilling in fridge. I've had to taste test these just to ensure I'm sending quality chocolate. Scientific purposes. I've looked in every shop near me (3!) And they don't have pink snacks Shock are they gone???
I bought a pack of purple snacks so now I'll have to eat the pack I bought. Damn.
I know the calypso and mint crisp by cafferys are Irish but I want them to like the stuff Grin I personally like it but a lot of people don't.
Am I right in saying you can't get tiffin bars? Emeralds might be a good shout, thanks.

Can I put a vote in for Silvermints. I always come back with multiple packs of them, not chocolate but still lovely.

scatteredglitter · 11/01/2022 19:34

Skeillig chocolates and brittles are amazing ! They do hampers

yodaforpresident · 11/01/2022 19:38

Yes to snacks and Turkish delight 😋

yodaforpresident · 11/01/2022 19:39

Morrison’s sell Tayto.

Marmite27 · 11/01/2022 19:39

Chocolate kimberleys? My MIL brought a box back last time she went.

ParishSpinster · 11/01/2022 19:41

Mint crisp and golden crisp definitely taste nicer from Ireland (I've been told the Irish Cadbury recipe isn't the same as the UK one).

Emerald toffees.
Butlers hot chocolate cups.
Kimberley or Mikado biscuits?

ParishSpinster · 11/01/2022 19:41

Oh! Caramello!

Dora26 · 11/01/2022 19:45

Pink snacks are long gone

Anoisagusaris · 11/01/2022 19:50

I thought Twirls were the only bars still made in the Dublin Cadbury factory?

Must get some Mint Crisp myself - although it’s not the same since the mint pieces are no longer green!

I love the Caffrey’s Mint Crisps.

What about the boxes of Butler’s hot chocolate?

Are Banshee Bones Irish?

Anoisagusaris · 11/01/2022 19:53

Jacob’s Mikado Biscuits

SilkyDressingGown · 11/01/2022 20:05

First thing I do when I get off the plane in Ireland is buy Caramello Grin

Journeylikenomother · 11/01/2022 20:51

Irish Cadburys is definitely different to British Cadburys... caramello, mint crisp, etc

Skellig chocolate is a wonderful treat.

chocolatelover100 · 12/01/2022 12:26

I just checked with Cadbury's Coolock and the chocolate products manufactured in Coolock Dublin have the lot number beginning with OCO.
I've had to change my user name as I wrote in the email about this discussion on Mumsnet.

I can never find Mint Crips/Caramello/Tiffin/Golden Crisp where I am in the UK. I can't get purple Snack bars either.

I'm always thrilled the odd time I find a Star Bar in a supermarket or random corner shop.

I found Caramello in a vending machine at my uni (20yrs ago) but nowhere else in the UK. Was only introduced to Mint Crisp and Golden Crisp and the other varieties of Snack when I met DH and first went to Ireland. When we go over now, we fill the car boot with bars of chocolate, Flahavans porridge, Country Store muesli (definitely never seen in UK apart from a big tesco in Manchester's forrin shelf), Tanora, Cidona, tayto, kimberley and mikado biscuits. Oh, and some marmalade for some reason.
StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 12/01/2022 13:41

@ParishSpinster, I used to looooooove Country Store muesli! Must try it again next time I'm home. Never been a fan of Kimberley or Mikado biscuits though Grin. Soft spot for a coconut cream

ParishSpinster · 12/01/2022 14:30

@StrychnineInTheSandwiches I'm not a fan of the kimberley or mikado either. DH appears to operate on them Grin

Not tried a coconut cream!

LadyEloise1 · 12/01/2022 15:08

I just checked a Caramello in my local garage. It does have OCO in the lot number. I'll always check now because people on here say the Irish made Cadbury products are nicer than UK made Cadbury products since Mondelez took over.
I actually bought an Aero Blush

LookItsMeAgain · 12/01/2022 15:36

Have you looked at this site:
www.sweetco.ie/sweet-shop/

They may have some ideas on brands/types that you could buy singles of in your newsagent/supermarket and send over to your relatives (or you could order from them directly and get them sent to them?

ShoppingBasket · 13/01/2022 08:29

Thanks everyone, I went with mint crisps golden crisps, carmello and silvermints and mikado biscuits I wanted to do a kind of box like you get Japanese sweets in as they haven't been to Ireland before.
I'll keep butlers, skelligs and emeralds for the next series of boxes, thanks
