How to get a PCR test

I have a positive antigen test and symptoms. Tried the HSE website but there are no appointments in Louth, Meath or Dublin.
No way that I can see of getting on a list.
Do I need to wait and try again in a couple of days ( obviously won't be leaving house). Or is there another way to book it?

Can you order a postal test?

I know a few people who've gotten appointments checking just after midnight, should be worth trying!

Harp1977 · 26/12/2021 17:04

The appointments appear just at midnight, I think at the moment they are for the following day so if you do it tonight you will get a test for Tuesday. Also try randomly through the day as they do appear if not used by GPs etc

Hiya @qazxc
We had a similar issue a few times in the last few weeks. First I wasn't well and then my young fella had a bad cough and getting a PCR was not easy!! In the end I ended up on the HSE site just refreshing repeatedly. You'll find appointments do pop up, maybe as people cancel. In the end I ended up getting appointments for that day or the next both times. For my son I actually got one for an hour later. It is a total pain refreshing and obviously others are doing it top because a few popped up that I just couldn't click on in time. It might be more difficult now too possibly as clearly demand is through the roof.
Good luck with it.

Just makes you think that the numbers must be higher than the official figures, if it's that hard to get an appointment people are probably not doing it.

Try just after midnight? You could also call the out of hours GP (DDOC? they my be called something else in your area), as they can often get you a test appointment when there aren’t any available on the website.

Your gp can book it for you. I rang mine when I couldn't do it a few weeks ago and he got me one straight away.

My daughter got one yesterday. According to the government website there were no vacancies for 20 miles but we drove to our nearest centre and it was empty so she was tested immediately.

No luck with hse website last night, checked at quarter to one last night and appointments were all hone. Tried ringing gp but surgery is closed for the next couple of days.
