Well, when are you doing the big shop? I'm doing mine this evening, with the exception of fresh stuff like veg., milk and bread. Also, when if I forget something, I can pick it up with the fresh stuff.

I'm planning on going to Dunnes tomorrow evening after work. I have to pick up the turkey on Thursday, then DH will get last minute milk and bread on Friday.

Already had my Sainsbugs Xmas shop delivery yesterday. Twice, as he drove 15 miles away with one crate of my stuff still in the van, and had to come back on his way home! Just got to collect the turkey from the farm tomorrow, and I’m all done.

Tomorrow morning. Getting stressed thinking about the queue in Dunnes

Orreries · 22/12/2021 09:28

If anyone hasn't yet read Anne Enright's The Green Road it has the best ever 'big shop' scene in it which never ceases to crack me up. Including the bit where you're already in the queue and realise all the stuff you didn't get, and then again when you're in the car park so you go back in again, and then on the way home realise you forgot spuds, and consider hopping over a ditch and scraping a few out of the ground with your bare hands. Grin

Tomorrow as it's pay day. Will be there for when it opens and hoping no one else has the same idea 😄

I'm in Dunnes right now. It's heaving. The checkout queue is all the way down to the central aisle. Luckily I have MN to keep me occupied

They read out that scene on the radio last year on Christmas Eve. It's very funny. Although I was a bit Hmm that she forgot the spuds of all things.

@DramaAlpaca I was in Dunnes too yesterday at 5.30pm. I couldn't believe the queues.
I went up to the self service queue and flew through.

DramaAlpaca · 23/12/2021 15:11

@LadyEloise1 I wonder if it was the same store? Grin

LadyEloise1 · 23/12/2021 15:17

Dublin. The big one. Dropped gifts to one of my my sisters and popped in.

The video of the que for Dunnes in Blanch this morning gave me the twitchShock

DramaAlpaca · 23/12/2021 16:24

@LadyEloise1 not the same one, mid-West here. I'm glad I went yesterday, DS showed me photos posted online of the queue to get into another local Dunnes, it looked horrendous. I've just finished picking up a few bits locally, it was busy but not intolerably so.

Did mine yesterday. Got there (Aldi) at 8 and it was quite quiet. 👌

However, it dawned on me at the till I couldn't but booze at that hour!! It was only one bottle too, considered not bothering but went back in later - went to a Lidl and was delighted to discover it wasn't manic.

Was feeling all pleased with myself until my MIL needed a few things got (she's not able to go herself) and I had to go to Tesco this time. It was mental. Then had to head out AGAIN this time to the butchers to collect an order for MIL. (Good job I love her)

I ended up in and out of various shops from 8am to 3pm!! So much for my crafty plan to get there early and be done by 10.
