Does anyone use Dunnes Stores delivery?

Are they generally a bit dodgy about use by dates or have I just been unlucky? I had a delivery on the evening of 11th and today (14th) I took some pate out of the fridge and found it had a use by date of 12th. So I had just over 24 hours to eat it (if I had read all the dates while I was unpacking).

Usually we shop in person but DH has covid so we were isolating. I was really pleased with it so had put another order in to come on Thursday but now I'm wondering if should cancel it.

We've used them a fair bit and never had issues with dates. You might just have got unlucky but I do check everything on the off chance and move dinners around.

minniep · 14/12/2021 19:28

I've been using them for a while now and no issues .

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/12/2021 22:01

OK, I'll give it another go then. I have checked everything else and it's fine. Perhaps it's because the pate is a low-turnover product so more likely to be hanging around the shelves for longer.

I can't physically go to the supermarket now anyway as I have covid too, so it's delivery or starve. Grin

I haven't had any issues with dates but have stopped using it as the substitutions were ridiculous. Nearly half of my last order was substituted and all with way dearer items, so €5.50 rice krispies rather than €2 Dunnes own version, that kind of thing. I know I could select no substitution but then I'd be missing half my shopping.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/12/2021 22:11

That's interesting about substitution, I had hardly any substitutions on mine. Plus they gave me two savoy cabbages but only charged for one.

@Ihaveaskedyouthrice yes I've noticed that. I've had it happen with something (can't thing what it was ) that they replaced with something double the price

Irishfarmer · 29/01/2023 11:31

Hi sorry I know this is ancient. I have started using Dunnes delivery to get the €10 off €50 vouchers.

So if they need to substitute something and it costs I get charged the higher price? In Tesco if they substitute something you get charged the lower price.

SparkyBlue · 29/01/2023 13:23

@Irishfarmer yeah it's a bit rubbish compared to Tesco for that stuff. I found thing's constantly being substituted for much more expensive branded items

Irishfarmer · 29/01/2023 17:03

@SparkyBlue that is annoying, I've had a few nice subs from Tesco. I'm going to give dunnes another try this week and see what I think. TBF I did save a good bit of money with the vouchers. I didn't like that I had to empty the delivery boxes straight away. Tesco let you keep them and give them back the next week.

LadyEloise1 · 04/02/2023 18:29

Surely Dunnes factor in the vouchers when pricing up goods ?

Lojamo · 09/11/2024 10:34

I have used Dunnes Stores delivery for the last time.
I turned off substitutions because of the sharp practice of substituting for a higher value item.
Not leaving the baskets is also annoying
Can be hard to get delivery slots
No updates on delivery time but this was the deal-breaker for me:
In general I would order over the target amount to get the 10 of 50 but have found on more than one occasion that they don't have items in stock and order total falls just below the 50 or 100, meaning that you don't get the vouchers and end paying more for fewer products
