Well, for some of us anyway. Met Eireann recommend school closures. www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/storm-barra-schools-urged-to-close-in-12-counties-1.4747783

We just got our announcement on Aladdin, and even better, no home schooling Grin

Our schools are also closed and DS who is on TY work experience was also told to stay at home. Thankfully! Batten down the hatches!

Udouhun · 06/12/2021 19:53

Yay!

Pucarbuile · 06/12/2021 19:58

Nice to have someone other than Nphet telling us what to do for a change Wink

Force majeure it is 😫

Taytocrisps · 06/12/2021 20:13

A very happy teenager here! She had exams tomorrow and is hoping they'll be postponed. And even if the teachers opt for homeschooling, she doesn't have all her books at home, so she's hoping for less homework than usual tomorrow.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/12/2021 20:17

Yes, here too. It was a bit unexpected for me, I knew the storm was coming but they were mostly concerned about the South-West. Then, suddenly, it was the East coast too. Happy children here.

My sewing class (that I really enjoy) has also been cancelled, which is a shame but probably safer. There are only two ways to get there and both ways have a road that always gets blocked by fallen branches and trees when there's a big wind.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/12/2021 20:43

It's going to be a southerly wind in Dublin. There used to be a HUGE tree in our neighbour's garden to the south of us, I remember in the last big storm I wouldn't let DD sleep in her bedroom because that corner of the house was only a few metres from the tree. The neighbour had it taken down in the summer (it's wasn't as healthy as it should have been) so at least that worry has gone.

3luckystars · 06/12/2021 21:03

All delighted here, this storm sounds like it could do some serious damage though. Hope everyone is ok this time tomorrow.

Alittlelost0 · 06/12/2021 21:20

My DH is getting into Dublin tomorrow on the ferry and heading over to us on the wild west coast. I really wish he wasn't now! 😨

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/12/2021 21:24

I'll keep my fingers crossed for your DH Alittlelost0. I suspect his crossing might be delayed though, probably for the best if it is as it would be very uncomfortable to do the crossing in bad weather.

Yes Grin
Alittlelost0 · 06/12/2021 21:31

Thank you @blackamericano thats very kind. Hopefully he gets home safe and early enough before it all kicks off!
Stay safe everyone!

Abitlost2 · 06/12/2021 21:37

What jobs do you all have with it all being fine that school closes last min? Just curious!

Pucarbuile · 06/12/2021 21:48

Oh no. I hope he gets there safely, even if he is delayed.

Abitlost2 my dc are 10 and 12 so luckily old enough to entertain themselves while I work from home, which I was anyway. Unfortunately I can't throw them out onto the trampoline while I have a call though!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/12/2021 21:50

DH works from home at the moment (finance related), I'm studying part-time and the DC are both old enough to amuse themselves. I would definitely be more of a challenge if the DC were primary age and we both worked outside of home.

Alittlelost0 · 06/12/2021 21:56

I'm a stay home parent with 3 under 5 so my eldest only goes until 1.20 anyway

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 06/12/2021 22:37

The big question here is do we put our recycling bin out tonight and risk having to pick it all up after it blows over, or do we keep an ear out for the bin lorry and rush it out at the last minute?

Taytocrisps · 06/12/2021 22:52

I hope your DH makes it home safe @Alittlelost0. I wouldn't be surprised if they cancel the ferry.

Taytocrisps · 06/12/2021 22:54

@Abitlost2 I'll be going to work as normal tomorrow but DD is old enough to stay home alone. In fact, she'll be cooking us both dinner.

Wheelerdeeler · 06/12/2021 22:55

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 07/12/2021 06:34
