Interesting segment re Stonewall coming up. Hoping DH will watch with me!

There's a podcast by Nolan on bbc sounds about stonewall. Just started it.

1Week · 18/10/2021 17:24

Its a shocker isn't it.

I'd love an Irish journalist to do a deep dive on what's happening here.

CervicalCheck having the gall to address their materials to 'cervix havers' , in case they haven't done enough.

Schools told by the Dept of Ed all new toilet blocks must be mixed sex. No consultation - can you imagine what could happen?

Though I think that's together ahead of the Govs plans to bring in self id for 16 and 17 year olds.

Never mind I'm sure we'll get a full and heartfelt apology in 20 years with plenty lessons learned. Hmm

elgreco · 18/10/2021 20:23

The damage that will be done to girls will be something else.

1Week · 19/10/2021 09:22

It's the mixed sex toilets in secondary schools that's most shocking to me.

It is obvious that it will only lead to trouble.

I heard the Rape Crisis Centre give out their latest figures - for 2019 I think. 20% of their clients were under 18, abused by other under 18's. Now, despite the fact that the spokeswoman couldn't bring herself to break down those figures along any other relevant lines, I couldn't help guessing that a lot of those victims were young girls being abused by young boys.

If nothing else, they need just a small tiny space to be able to catch their breath, feel safe amid the dynamics of hundreds of teens at a school. And they won't want to 'out' themselves as survivors to all their peers.

It's just plain wrong and parents shouldn't stand for it.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 20/10/2021 14:55

I totally agree @1Week it is shocking and is only going to end in disaster.

What can we do though?

Is there anyone/group lobbying effectively on this topic in Ireland?

1Week · 20/10/2021 22:03

The Countess Didn't Fight For This
Woman's Space Ireland

Are the two I can think of. I've come off Twitter so not well up on things at the moment. Just expressing misgivings and doubts in a casual way among friends and acquaintances. Nobody is on board with it, but that just may be where I am.

honeyrider · 21/10/2021 16:09

Some patients in mixed wards in hospital have been sexually assaulted, I fear mixed toilets will make it easier for scum to assault females. Depressing to hear reports on national radio earlier about the level of spiking drinks that's happening especially to young women in college but not unique to just young females.

PleasantBirthday · 22/10/2021 14:32

It was hard not to be able to take any pleasure in the election of Ivana Bacik but that's where we are.

Who are you all voting for? I, personally am completely out of options now.

1Week · 22/10/2021 19:51

Not a bloody clue

elgreco · 26/10/2021 23:45

I will ask the question "what is a women? " next time when canvassed.

1Week · 27/10/2021 02:04

I will too.

I've finished being quiet. I'm commenting under my own name on FB (God that sounds so pathetic), I've already been sounding friends out but now fuckit let the randoms know. It might make some of them think twice.

I know I'm not transphobic. I can stand over what I'm saying.

I feel like women here are blinded by the rainbow the same way our grandmothers were blinded by the cross. The dazzle of it means we can't see the 5% of predators hiding behind the 95% of decent people.

It was a mistake to think once we got rid of the priests we got rid of religiosity.

You are spot on. As Glinner says the trans women are like a new priest hood, untouchable and not to be questioned, that’s why Stonewall say no debate but Stonewall are falling very quickly now and that’s in no small part to Stephen and David Thomson’s excellent podcasts. Thank goodness for them, women in Scotland are very grateful.
CreepingDeath · 30/10/2021 15:18

I'm so glad this is being talked about outside of FWR, we are so far behind because Self ID is ALREADY LAW. It makes me so angry to think about this. It will take years to claw back single sex rights for women.

Most of our politicians just don't want to talk about this. I have emailed my local TDs several times about men in women's prisons etc. and got no response. Nothing.

I feel like women here are blinded by the rainbow the same way our grandmothers were blinded by the cross. The dazzle of it means we can't see the 5% of predators hiding behind the 95% of decent people.

This is so true. And the fact that there has been a liberal reckoning over the last 20 years in breaking out of the conservative constraints of the catholic church, with divorce, abortion and gay marriage. So I think we are riding high on the crest of 'look how open and liberal and lefty and hip we all are'.

But Self ID is nothing like gay rights, it's not the same thing at all! I have friends who helped campaign for the same sex referendum who had no idea that was also being pushed through at the time. It's so sinister how it was brought into law without public discussion.

I'm very grateful for Countess etc. but there needs to be more public awareness of this.Sometimes I hate how apathetic we are as a country. I'm eyeing up the UK jealously from across the pond because they are actually having the difficult conversations. We are not even there yet Sad.

So glad to see this thread- I lurk on FWR here, but dont open my mouth in real life. My children know my point of view, but generally think I'm v old-fashioned, "cos there's loads of girls who are trans at school". Hmm

However, they also know, that I am intransigent WRT respecting everyone, and people's right to express their point of view, even if I dont agree with them. That there are ways to disagree, without dismissing or diminishing the other person.

Excellent post @1Week.
I would have thought that we, in Ireland , should be even more aware of, and alert to , the ideological nature of some of the Trans agenda. As we have such close and recent awareness of Catholic ideology and it's dark side.
Some people in positions of responsibility and authority need to wake up and lead.

Really well put.

I've just finished the Nolan podcast. It is some piece of work and I'd love to see the same spotlight shone on our own lobbyist group. There has been no debate, most of the population don't even know that Self ID is in law and the input seems to be entirely from single-issue lobbyists. Add to that our equality legislation is going to be reviewed with the intention of adding gender identity and gender expression onto gender (perish the thought we could use the word "sex" even if that's what we mean).

We are so screwed over in comparison with the UK.

CreepingDeath · 06/11/2021 09:15

We are so screwed over in comparison with the UK.

I know, we are so far behind even having the conversation, and the fact that most people don't even know what's going on, and the media are fully complicit means I sound like a deranged person when I try to talk about it. People think it's a non issue, or don't understand what's happening behind the scenes. So frustrating.

My only hope is that the furore that is going on across the pond will spark some discussion over here. We are (whether we like to admit it or not) quite invested in what happens in the UK, and I think the fact that they are fighting back against this gives us some hope.

But it will be a long way back to reality Sad.

Udouhun · 06/11/2021 18:08

Everything that is being said on this thread is what's on my mind. A woman is an adult human female. Why are men being allowed to encroach on our spaces in Ireland?

You have my sympathy, we women are having the same battles over here in Scotland and the government keep saying “ calm down ladies, it’s all fine in Ireland” and we know it’s far from fine.
Rhannion · 07/11/2021 01:27

We women need to stand to together, there is a war on women and girls rights all over the world at the moment.

CreepingDeath · 07/11/2021 11:13

Rhannion

This bugs me so much, the only reason they are able to say that is because we are not being allowed to talk about it in Ireland. Of course there are 'no problems' if people aren't able to mention the problems, or able to voice concerns, or even say anything critical or negative at all. Grrr.

Our media and government have been completely captured, it's so frustrating. Even the story of Barbie Kardashian is being censored, Tusla have sent out warning letters to media outlets who report on it, even though this person is now over the age of 18!

And apparently a video about it by Rose of Dawn has been blocked in Ireland and cannot be viewed. There is something rotten at the core of all this.

If anyone wants to come on over to the FWR boards, I promise we are not scary Smile. It is the only place that this is being seriously discussed.

WineAway · 08/11/2021 13:47

We’re back to censorship by the church of Trans. It’s very disturbing.
