Changing GPs?

Does anyone know how I go about changing doctor's? We were with our old GP for donkey's years, new GP took over with a partner, the partner is fantastic so genuinely lovely but not there all the time. This other doctor is rude, I am easy going but even I'm stressed dealing with them. Dh overhead a conversation today between me and GP and he was SO disgusted that he rang the HSE. I actually feel like shit after dealing with her, close to tears many times. I've tried asking for different GP at appointments, but she's always blooming there. I'm so ill, I am going to die in the next few years and I'm fucking dreading that she will be my doctor. I've googled changing doctors but It's all different forms, which is fine but do I have to tell her I want to leave? I've found another gp, do I ask them if they can take us on first? It's not very clear online. Has anyone changed gp's and what did you do?

Are you a public ( medical card ) or private patient - you pay the GP yourself ?
It might he different depending on the above.
I pay myself- €70 !!! for every visit.
I changed GP because my GP's practice was closing so I just went to another one and my notes were sent over.

I've a medical card as I have a life limiting illness. The other gp I've found accepts medical cards, I would have to find out if she can accept our family as I'd move us all over. I'm not sure what to do, do I tell my current gp that I am leaving and to transfer my records? I rang the hse helpline and they say to fill out the forms online, the forms are change of doctor and one for medical card to see if the GP will accept us, but when I read the forms they say to give to your gp? Do I give to old gp or new gp? Or just send them to hse?

Sorry I can't help as I don't know the procedure when you have a medical card.
Bumping for you.

I think just give them to new GP and let them handle requesting your records if you're accepted.

It's not too bad a process, OP. I helped a family member do it recently when they moved house.

First step is to find a new GP who says they will take you on as a medical card patient. Usually, the practise either is or isn't taking on new medical card patients at a given time.

It's none of their concern why you're changing doctor, but if they do ask you can always say that your old GP has left/retired/whatever happened to the good one.

Second step is to fill out the Change of GP form, get the new GP practice to sign and stamp it, and send it off to the HSE

Form is here https://www2.hse.ie/file-library/medical-cards/medical-card-and-gp-visit-card-change-of-gp-form-english.pdf

Good luck Thanks

OP depending on where you live your biggest issue will be to get another gp to take you on as a patient, I know here it's next to impossible to get a new gp for medical card patients
