PPSN Application for child

After a long drawn out wait for our house in Dublin to be ready, we're finally moving back from the UK next week. I have an almost 3 year old son and have managed to get him a place in a local ECCE montessori but I have yet to receive his PPSN. I understand there's a backlog due to covid etc and I have received confirmation that it was received but nobody seems to be able to tell me how long I might have to wait! The montessori have been great and are saying that I can start him anyway but I just wondered if anyone else had applied recently and how long it might have taken?

I know someone who applied a few months ago and got the numbers issued in about a week. They needed a letter from school/crèche in order to apply for the PPSN but it was very quick after that.

Oh really!? Nobody told me that I need a letter from the nursery. That’s annoying as I literally sent every document I could think of! I haven’t even received a request for more info, just the confirmation that the application was received. Thanks so much for the reply.

I'm not entirely sure but I think the letters were to prove the children were actually in the country (or something like that). My friend spoke to someone from the Children’s allowance dept on the phone who talked her through exactly what she needed to send in with the application.

My dp had to prove why he wanted it before they would issue him one. So he sent a letter of a job offer and he had it in a few days.

As romdowa says, evidence of the reason why you're applying is requested. They may issue you one anyway, but (and it seems a slightly silly tile) parents of foreign born kids moving into Ireland should give the specific reason why they're applying.
